The first scheduled flights were operated with three Piper-Navajo aircraft between the cities of Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit and Akron-Canton. The company implemented a major program to re-equip the airline with more modern turbo-prop aircraft and started flying the Embraer Bandeirante aircraft, manufactured in Brazil by Embraer Aircraft Corporation. To support the growth and capital requirements to upgrade the fleet, Comair went public. In July, Comair Holdings, Inc. common stock began trading under the symbol COMR in the NASDAQ National Market System. In December, Comair started its relationship with Delta Air Lines, when Comair became a part of the Deltamatic computerized reservation system. In September, Comair became a Delta Connection carrier. The marketing agreement with Delta Air Lines enhanced opportunity for Comair by allowing their airline to operate flights under the DL code and coordinate schedules for more efficient connections. In 1986, Delta Air Lines purchased about 20% of Comair's common stock. Comair also started Comair Jet Express, a provider of on-demand air charter service. Comair became the first airline in the United States to fly the 30-passenger Saab 340 turboprop aircraft.
