However, it was not until the mid 1980's that we moved into our present location, with the help of the Nova Scotia government. Since that time the Museum has grown to over 20 airframes and two buildings, representing an important cross section of aviation history in Atlantic Canada. ACAM currently forms part of a triad of Aviation Museums in Nova Scotia, the other two members being the Greenwood Military Aviation Museum and the Shearwater Aviation Museum . Extractions: GO ADVANCED SEARCH SEE TIME FLY - THE CENTENARY OF AVIATION MUSEUM TRAIL By James Kightly Photo: It's chocks away for the Centenary of Flight: freelance aero journalist James Kightly takes us on a tour of some of his favourite aviation heritage sites in the UK 2003 is the centenary of the Wright Brothers' first flight, at Kittyhawk Sands, Virginia - and since then heavier-than-air flying machines have revolutionised our world. Think for a moment about how different our lives would be without the jet airliner. All over the globe celebrations of the centenary are taking place - so follow this trail of great places in the UK to find out our skybound heritage. We are very lucky in Britain. More planes in less space than anywhere else! It's remarkably easy to see some of the early starters, significant developments, and some possible futures of flight, and you can explore the byways and oddities as well. Britain has one of the richest resources in terms of aviation history, from world famous personalities, places and machines, to incredible stories. Although we can't bring you over the web the smell of burnt castor oil from a World War One rotary engine, nor the crackle of a Spitfire's Merlin engine, or indeed the chance to stand beside the aircraft holding records for first, fastest, highest, or slowest, we can point you in the right direction.

But when I mentioned I was going to visit a few of the Bay Area's aviation museums, he gladly set aside his rake and hammer, and came along for the ride. Such is the appeal of getting close to big flying machines. Over the course of a month, we got nose-to-nose with everything from replicas of some of the earliest winged craft to an actual B-52 bomber that seemed as if it could fill a city block. We climbed into cockpits and toured the bowels of a 1940s flying boat. And we got a quick lesson in the evolution of aviation locally, nationally and internationally, both from the civilian and military perspectives. A number of aviation museums feature "war birds" from World War II, some of them still in flying condition, while the Travis Air Force Museum displays "nose art"-those paintings of voluptuous women and fierce animals that have graced combat planes in several conflicts. (Frank B. Mormillo/Planes of Fame Air Museum) Towing along test marketers in the form of our two sons, ages 7 and 8, who rated the institutions for their kid appeal, we launched our mission at the Bay Area's newest showcase for historic planes, the
