It was established in 1986 to provide the highest quality education in optics and lasers, conduct scholarly fundamental and applied research, and aid in the development of Florida's high technology-based industries. CREOL is integrated in the School of Optics and serves as its research arm. The School of Optics is one of only three academic institutes in the nation offering Masters' (MS) and Doctoral (PH.D.)
