Extractions: "Something deep in our culture breeds innovative cost effective solutions. New Zealand was the first country to successfully defend the America's Cup outside of the USA. Yet the technology and design solutions required to do that were achieved at a fraction of the cost of European and US competitors." Ingenuity, entrepreneurial flair and a 'can do' attitude; these are some of the characteristics that make New Zealand businesses increasingly successful internationally, particularly in areas like information and communications technology, niche manufacturing, aqua culture and creative industries such as design, fashion, film and television. But it is not simply about individual attributes - New Zealand itself is geared to business.

Extractions: Preliminary Results - Index Previous Next This paper presents preliminary descriptive results from a large empirical survey on the electronic business activities of New Zealand-based organisations. The research focuses on the adoption and implementation of E-Business in all of the ANZSIC industry codes. Key findings include the scale of electronic activities, website functionality, motivation for E-Business initiatives and the major impacts of E-Business activities. Implementation issues cover the resources, advice and sources of assistance needed for E-Business initiatives. The major implementation difficulties were evaluated and measures to improve uptake of E-Business are also reported. Several major descriptive studies have been conducted on the nature of E-Business and its impacts. PriceWaterhouseCoopers (2000) polled Conference Board executives in 78 leading multinational companies from many industries around the globe. Their recommendations for successful E-Business initiatives stressed the importance of planning and flexibility, the need for integrated solutions, and taking full advantage of business partner and alliance relationships. Commenting on E-Business growth opportunities, they noted: "The E-Business growth of the past year has raised the stakes so dramatically that it is more important now than ever that companies act proactively to address this existing opportunity."

Extractions: Test finalised Friday 14 December 2001. Executive Summary New Zealand economic indicators released over the last month point to continued, although modest, growth during the September 2001 quarter. GDP figures will be released 21 December. The outlook for the December quarter is more mixed, with the negative impact of a weaker international economy clearly feeding through to some parts of the New Zealand economy. With most indicators of economic activity in the September quarter now at hand, economic growth looks to have continued into the third quarter of 2001 at a rate of around ½% quarter on quarter. Indicators suggest that positive contributions to growth from net exports, public and private consumption will be partially offset by a fall in market investment. We also expect a further reduction in the annual current account deficit with the release of the September quarter balance of payments figures on 20 December. In terms of initial indicators of activity for the December 2001 quarter, solid increases in both dwelling consents and primary production measures bode well for continued growth in these sectors. However, other indicators point to a softening in activity going forward.
