Extractions: The First Step (1996 - 2000) Geography The diocese is situated in the interior part of Ghana. Its location is between latitude 6.5°-8.15° N and longitude 2.15° W - 0.15° E. with an area of about 25,456.3 (10.7% of the country's total surface area). The diocese comprises ten (10) districts. Districts from the basic units for the political and administrative system in the country. There are 110 districts in the country. They are Asante-Akim North and South, Ejisu-Juaben, Kwabre, Afigya-Sekyere, Sekyere East and West, Ejura-Sekyedumase, Atebubu and Sene Districts. Ecclesiastically, the diocese shares boundaries with the Dioceses of Kumasi, Obuasi, Goaso, Sunyani, Koforidua, Jasikan, Yendi and the Tamale Archdiocese. One significant relief is the Akwapim-Mampong Range that stretches from the Eastern Region and passes through the following districts: Asante-Akim South, Sekyere East, Afigya Sekyere, Ejura-Sekyedumase to Kintampo district in the Brong Ahafo Region. There are two types of climatic and vegetation zones. These are the forest and transitional zones. The diocesan territory, apart form the abundant fertile lands that are suitable for the cultivation of both cash and food crops, is endowed with many natural resources such as forest reserves, clay and sand, streams and rivers.
