New Architect: Virtual Worlds general page for Java 3D, how to use, when to use, features and alternatives. Short view for the 3d future on the web. http://www.webtechniques.com/archives/1997/10/vrml/
Extractions: New Architect Archives > Virtual Worlds By Andrea L. Ames As programming languages go, Java is easy to learn and use, but its application programming interfaces (APIs) provide even easier access to its features. One API group, the Java Media and Communications APIs, provides an interface for creating applications involving graphics, telephony, media players and capture, and conferencing. Here, I'll focus on the Java 3D API, which provides higher-than-Java-level constructs for creating, manipulating, and rendering 3D geometry. These constructs allow you to write applications that create and manipulate virtual worlds more easily and quickly than possible with Java itself. Java 3D draws from and synthesizes the best concepts of the following 3D technologies: (Also see " Online Direct3D, the realtime 3D graphics component of Microsoft's DirectX 2 interactive media technologies supported in Windows 95.
Bible Study - Bible Codes (ELS) Made Simple - Part 1 Explanation of techniques for finding codes and discussion of the limitations of the popular codefinding software and the theory in general. From a Christian perspective. http://www.nathan.co.za/biblecod.asp
Extractions: A word to the reader I did this study without any preconceived ideas of the "codes" being right or wrong. I merely looked at the facts, and wrote them as I found them. Please read the document carefully before asking questions which are covered in the material. The material is not complicated, in spite of having a few graphs. Just read it. What is it? The best way to explain what the "Bible Codes" is, is by using an example.

Decision Trees ORNotes by J. R. Beasley. In many problems chance (or probability) plays an important role. Decision analysis is the general name that is given to techniques for analysing problems containing risk/uncertainty/probabilities. Decision trees are one specific decision analysis technique and we will illustrate the technique by use of an example. http://mscmga.ms.ic.ac.uk/jeb/or/dectree.html
Extractions: OR-Notes are a series of introductory notes on topics that fall under the broad heading of the field of operations research (OR). They were originally used by me in an introductory OR course I give at Imperial College. They are now available for use by any students and teachers interested in OR subject to the following conditions A full list of the topics available in OR-Notes can be found here In many problems chance (or probability) plays an important role. Large plant Small plant Competition respond 20 35 Competition do not respond 50 65 Although the above example is somewhat simplified it plainly represents the type of decision that often has to be made about new products. In particular note how we cannot separate the test market decision from any decisions about the future profitability (if any) of the product if test marketing is successful.

Travel Books : The New Making of a Cook : The Art, Techniques, And Science Of Good Cooking by: Madeline Kamman The Making of a Cook since it first appeared in 1971. She has now revised it to reflect newer techniques, the availability of a wider range of ingredients, and the recent American aversion to fat. She suggests eating fats in moderation, and includes recipes for cholesterol-free gingerbread and more. Fundamentally, Kamman teaches classic French technique as applied to American ingredients. For example, she carefully explains how to make a classic espagnole sauce as chefs have made it for centuries and also provides, as an alternative, a brown stock made in the microwave. A good chef must understand food chemistry; any good cook is fascinated by the hows and whys of the kitchen. Kamman gives the information that a professional requires, with clarity anyone can understand.
Extractions: Certified Aston-Patterner I have been Rolfing since 1989 and completed my Aston-Patterning certification in 1998. I graduated from massage school in Washington, D.C. in 1975. At the time, my teacher was in the middle of his Rolfing training, so Rolfing had a major influence on my massage training. I taught massage and macrobiotics in Washington, D.C. until 1980, when I moved to Florida where I had a massage practice for eight years. In 1988 and 1989 I attended the Rolf Institute in Boulder, Colorado. I established my Rolfing practice in the Palm Beach area of Florida. In 1993 I did an advanced training with the Guild for Structural Integration and in 1994 I did an advanced training with the Rolf Institute. In 1996 I moved to Seattle. I have been doing yoga for thirty years and continue to study Rolfing and Aston-Patterning with various teachers. I've also been studying Continuum movement with Emilie Conrad and Susan Harper since 1988. Rolfing relieved me of chronic back, neck and head pain and from knee problems that I had developed from running. Rolfing helped me become more extroverted. I like to say that it uncurled me from the fetal position. Rolfing tune-ups continue to improve my physical alignment which for me translates to better mental and spiritual alignment. Experiencing the "Rolf line" can be an almost mystical experience. Aston-Patterning has taught me how to move without hurting myself and how to feel and use my relationship with gravity. It has helped me understand the underlying simple mechanics of all movements which helps turn daily activities into an effortless dance.
Extractions: While the book does offer the standard mosaic-making advice, the alphabetical encyclopedic format makes it frustrating at times. If you are a beginner, as I was, you won't know where to start. 'Planning', 'setting up your studio', and 'equipment' are all topics, but if you don't know exactly what to look up and in what order, it won't do much good. And if you're more experienced, you don't really need big color photos of safety equipment.
