Carl Sagan Welcome from the faculty, staff and students of the Department of Chemistry and Physics. The Department is home to 23 faculty in all areas of chemistry and physics, many of whom hold cross- or associate appointments with the Departments of Biology, Engineering, Environmental Science as well as a group of dedicated support staff, students and postdoctoral associates. Outstanding in-house instrumental facilities, such as the Laser Spectroscopy Laboratory, Allen Materials Science Laboratory, and the Water-Rock-Life Laboratory help to provide a stimulating research environment which is also strengthened by the association of many of our faculty in the department with the Arkansas Biosciences Institute. We are particularly proud of the many faculty in the department who have won recent acclaim for their internationally recognized research. These include Mark Draganjac (University Distinguished Research Faculty) and Robyn Hannigan (National Academy of Sciences Natural Resources Board nominee).
