When old enough, she volunteered at the Cochrane Humane Society and eventually became an employee filling the position of Animal Care Coordinator. Like so many shelters, when the facility fills up, Kimberley takes cats and dogs home to foster until permanent homes can be found. In her spare time, Kimberley volunteers with the Town of Cochrane Animal Services, helping to capture stray animals and when ever the opportunity arises she is quick to educate the public on responsible pet ownership. Recognizing a need for a animal disaster plan in Cochrane she took on the responsibility of developing a plan. To better prepare her for this task, she became part of the Disaster Social Services (DSS) team in Cochrane. The knowledge she has gained in working on the plan and dealing with DSS definitely prepared her for the devastating fires in British Columbia during the summer of 2003.
