Extractions: Rabbits and small animals in kill shelters need your help! While many listed pets are from Southern Ca, I do have links to Northern CA shelters as well as world wide shelter listings ! (Please email me with links or information on shelters in your area that have sometimes have rabbits or pocket pets for adoption.) Pets described on this page may not still be available when you contact the shelter. If you are interested in any shelter animal, please do not delay in contacting the shelter directly! Be sure to give the impound number if one is known, not the name listed. The "available date" could be the pet's only day to be saved. Because most shelters deal with so many animals, it's hard for them to tell you which pets are still there, what their personalities are like, etc. Go in person to verify the pet is still available! Please Note: If you do not see a rabbit or pocket pet listed, visit the shelter, some shelters do not have a volunteer who sends regular updates! If you don't visit the shelter, a pet just like the one you are seeking might die. HI KILL means the shelters are known to have a very high kill rate vs. adoption rate. Rabbits and pocket pet in these shelters could have only a few days to live!! If you are interested in a pet from one of these shelters, go down ASAP. Some shelters are unable to hold pets beyond their available date due to space or policy issues.

Extractions: Dobermans are currently available in pounds, shelters, rescue facilities, and foster homes all over the United States and Canada. Please visit your local animal control facilities and contact your local rescue groups if you are interested in adding a doberperson to your life. On a personal note: I hope you will consider adopting a doberman that does not necessarilly meet all of your desired critera - such as cropped ears, or not the color you think you want. Maybe you might even consider an older dog or even a mix. They can all make great pets if you nurture them and love them. To those of you who have shared stories and pictures with me - I love them.

WSPA CANADA - Northern Dog Control - Project Continues In 2003 access to humane societies, animal shelters, even basic the problem of stray and feralanimals. can be exported to jurisdictions throughout northern canada.. http://www.wspa.ca/northerndogcontrol.html
Extractions: The Dog Days of Winter This young husky is one of many free-roaming dogs in Mistissini. In many northern municipalities, dogs still roam and breed freely. Concerns about dogs engaging in "pack behaviour", and incidences of dogs attacking or biting children are very real concerns for community members. The usual method of dealing with the problem has been to call a "dog shooting day." On dog shooting day, people are warned to keep sled dog teams tied up and keep all pets inside. Depending on the community, dogs will either be rounded up, removed from town and shot or, more disturbingly, teams of armed men will fan out throughout the community and shoot them in the streets. WSPA has particularly strong objections to shooting dogs on the run as they may suffer terrible injuries prior to being killed. WSPA is working with leaders in several northern Quebec communities to develop a more humane solution.
Extractions: WSPA working for more humane treatment of dogs in northern Canada A dog sits by the side of a road in Kuujjuaq. In northern municipalities such as this one, dogs roam and breed freely. When it becomes a problem for the community, a "dog shooting day" is called for. WSPA is working to provide northern communities with a model for humane dog control. A weekend workshop in Val d'Or, Quebec this July has set the stage for more humane treatment of animals in the province. Lacking access to services that most Canadians take for granted, many remote northern communities struggle with dog control problems. Most have no animal shelters, no SPCAs and in some cases their only contact with veterinarians is once a year when public health officials come around to vaccinate against rabies. Municipal officials must contend with what to do when loose dogs begin to pack and when aggressive animals bite members of their community. Most employ "dog shooting days" as a means of eliminating unwanted or stray animals. On dog shooting days, dog owners are warned to keep their animals inside or on a leash. All loose dogs are shot.
