Clifton Forge High School Alumni Assoc. It s sad to be gone and not remembered. The old high school building is being used by other organizations now, including our own alumni Association. http://home.att.net/~bh1861/CFHS.html
Extractions: Alumni Association There is no city named Clifton Forge, in the country, now that our Clifton Forge has downgraded its charter to Town! It's only the second time that a Virginia city has sacrificed its city charter on the altar of economic salvation! The Association was formed as a tool to interpret the cultural and historical aspects of the High School and it's story, to provide scholarships to deserving qualified students, and to save the old building as well. And, since the High School no longer exists by its old name, the association is an excellent tool by which alumni may get in touch with their old friends! Registering the Association as a non-profit organization has resulted in the awarding of scholarships. The Association now is a bona fide 501(c)(3) organization qualified to receive donations which donors may deduct from their income taxes. Details regarding donations may be obtained by contacting the Association at the address published at the end of this page.

PARTNERSHIP-IN-EDUCATION PROGRAM Deirdre Holder, Michelle Weddle, and Pam Simpson attended the meeting to make a presentation about the USDA/APHIS Partnership in Education program. APHIS has been involved since 1992. For the first time, the APHIS program has been linked to "America's Promise, The Alliance for Youth," a national not-for-profit organization led by General Colin Powell. The Alliance for Youth is dedicated to mobilizing the nation to ensure our children and youth have access to the fundamental resources they need to become successful adults. Their symbol is "The Little Red Wagon." Under General Powell's leadership, the Alliance serves as a nationwide catalyst, urging public, private and non-profit organizations to focus their combined talents and resources to improve the lives of our nations youth. The group strives to enhance the success of youngsters by providing them with mentoring, safe places, a healthy start, marketable skills, and an opportunity to give back to their community. Ms. Holder provided some detail about past activities and the rewards from helping the students. Hyattsville Elementary School, Hyattsville Middle School and Northwestern Senior High School are our three partner schools. As a mentor/tutor you can choose the age level that is most interesting to you. The school selects the students that participate in the program.

This Association serves as a vehicle for alumni to give back to YFU and offers many opportunities for alumni of all ages: finding and catching up with old friends, volunteering, networking, contributing financially. The National Alumni Council (NAC), a group of 15 volunteer members, mostly alumni, governs the Association. Each district has a NAC contact person or District Facilitator, to help local alumni groups, work with the district offices, and facilitate communication between the NAC and alumni. Keywords

We were not able to determine the number of times the Alumni organized or reorganized. Gertrude Dibeler Sobolewski, class of 1923, and Pauline Bloser Gibson, class of 1936, tell us that the early alumni "treated" the graduates to a banquet. It is known that an active association was in existence in the early 1930's. In 1933 the Enola High School Alumni Association presented its first play called "Am I Intruding? " a mystery comedy in three acts. Miss Reigel selected the following cast: Mary Bitner, Brinton Fenicle, Edna Wetzler, Henry Weiss, Sara Margaret Vogel, Maurice Herrold, Mary Gianforti, Arthur Feister, John Ulrich, Mary Cornicelli, Myers Knight and Margaret Wendler. In 1934 the alumni again presented a play, " Spooky Hollow ," under the direction of Mrs. C. W. Hoover. The cast then was, Albert Emenheiser, Kathryn Cornicelli, Pauline Burris, William Cooper, Sara Vogel, Maurice Herrold, Elizabeth Krew, Mary Bitner, Richard Rosenberry and Myers Knight. During this period Myers Knight, class of 1927, was the first president. He recalls that when they decided to discontinue activities $1,500 was in the treasury. The money was given to the Enola High School for a trophy case.

Located in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood, the school would serve students from parishes in southwest Brooklyn. Lacking a gym, laboratory, adequate library or lunch room, St Mike's had one priceless asset- a dedicated, talented faculty of Xaverian Brothers. Partners in sharing the "primitive" site on 43rd Street, the bond of love and respect that was forged between Brothers and boys is a bond that endures to this day.
