Extractions: In Intermediate Algebra you will gain a working knowledge of algebraic concepts and become better prepared for higher mathematics courses. If you have not completed your algebra education, or if you need a review of algebra concepts, this course is for you! This course is a sequel to elementary algebra, and you should already be comfortable (perhaps with a little review) working with basic algebraic expressions, solving very simple equations, understanding and using whole number exponents, and factoring expressions. In this course we progress to solving two or more equations simultaneously, working with algebraic fractions, understanding and using radicals and fractional exponents, solving and applying quadratic equations, and working with exponential and logarithmic expressions. Solving systems of linear equations Rational expressions and functions Radicals and complex numbers Quadratic equations and inequalities Exponential and logarithmic functions The student will: Solve and interpret systems of equations Simplify and combine rational expressions Evaluate and simplify radical expressions Interpret and perform operations using complex numbers Solve quadratic equations and inequalities, and apply quadratic equations and inequalities to solving problems

Extractions: Welcome to the TI Calculator Help Center! This site is intented to help you learn how to use your TI Graphing calculator. Here you will find step-by-step instructions on how to perform a number of common operations encountered in a basic or advanced algebra course (based on my high school and college experience). The instruction were originally written based on a TI-85 calculator, however many points will be similar for a TI-83 or TI-86. You will also find a variety of programs for TI-82 and TI-85 calculators. (Sorry, no games here!) Visitors are welcome to contact me if they have any questions and I will do my best to respond within a day or so.
Extractions: The Classification Theorem for Finite Simple Groups allows us, in principle, to reduce many questions about an arbitrary finite group to the consideration of particular known simple groups (its simple constituents). The design of efficient algorithms based on the idea of "reduction to a simple group" represents a considerable challenge to the algorithm designer and it is only very recently that efficient practical algorithms have started to emerge. These lectures will describe the strategy behind a family of such reduction algorithms devised by Derek Holt and Cannon for computing basic properties of a finite group G (e.g., normal subgroups, subgroup lattice, automorphism group). There are three major steps in such a reduction algorithm: Determining the composition factors of G. Solving the problem for each of the simple constituents of G. Lifting the answer back to G.
