Top of page Foster Baker received his B.S. in Education from Northwest Missouri State University and his M.S. from the University of Kansas, with additional work at the University of Kansas City and The University of Iowa. Mr. Baker taught for over thirty years in the secondary schools of Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa. He has also taught at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Since 1965, Mr. Baker has instructed and written study guides for several Department of Mathematics Guided Independent Study courses at The University of Iowa. Among the topics covered are: operations with real numbers, linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, quadratic equations, and rational expressions. This course does not count toward the total credit required for graduation at The University of Iowa.

Top of page Daniel D. Anderson , Professor of Mathematics, received his Ph.D. in 1974 from the University of Chicago. He has taught at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the University of Missouri at Columbia, and has been with the Department of Mathematics at The University of Iowa since 1977. Professor Anderson has published over one hundred research articles in commutative algebra, and has lectured on his research in Africa, Asia, and Europe. His teaching experience ranges from courses in pre-algebra to graduate courses in commutative ring theory. He is married, has a daughter, son-in-law and grandson who live in South Carolina, and enjoys collecting Iowa trade tokens (tokens issued by pool halls, dairies, bars, general stories, etc.), hiking, and picnicking.
