Extractions: A WHITE HOUSE MILLENNIUM COUNCIL PROJECT The National Commission on Libraries and Information Science and Sister Cities International have embarked on a major initiative, Sister Libraries: A White House Millennium Council Project. The initial goal is for public and school libraries in the United States to pair with others worldwide, focusing on programs specifically planned for children and teenagers. Participating libraries, such as the ones listed here, receive recognition and designation as official White House Millennium Council Sister Libraries, but the project does not provide funds for staff, equipment or materials. Many Sister Libraries are in locations that are already affiliated through Sister Cities International, an organization for sister city, county and state programs in the United States. SCI is the official agency that links communities from the United States with communities worldwide. The Sister Library programs will do much to encourage multicultural exchange and broaden international understanding enabling young people to appreciate more fully their own place in, and impact on, the world of today and tomorrow!
