This reservoir is popular with anglers from Alabama and Mississippi. There are modern campgrounds, many day use facilities for picnicking or water sports, as well as primitive camping areas. There are two public access areas with bank and boat access and one user fee access area located on the Aliceville Reservoir. Bass anglers ready to find their favorite fishing spot at Aliceville Lake. Photo by Jerry Moss Since being impounded in 1980 by the U.S. Corps of Engineers, Aliceville Reservoir is best known for its largemouth bass and crappie fishing. There is a good abundance of largemouth bass up to 18-inches with a moderate number of larger bass. The crappie fishing has been outstanding at the Aliceville Reservoir. Since October of 1993, there has been a 9-inch minimum length limit on crappie. Today 9- to 12-inch crappie are abundant in the Aliceville Reservoir. Another good fishery in Aliceville Reservoir is bream fishing. Bream provide good summer and fall angling in backwater and cove areas in the lower section of the reservoir around weed beds. The best fishing for bass, crappie, and bream occurs in sloughs, around standing timber and weed beds, from February through June.
Wilson Lake In Alabama outdooralabama.com/fishing/freshwater/where/reservoirs/ The Geological Survey of alabama has interactive maps showing the locations of boat ramps at www.gsa http://www.outdooralabama.com/fishing/freshwater/where/reservoirs/Wilson/
Extractions: Wilson Lake Wilson Reservoir is located in northern Alabama near the towns of Florence and Muscle Shoals. The reservoir extends upstream for 15 miles to Wheeler Dam and covers 15,500 acres. Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and catfish are targeted most often by anglers on Wilson Lake. Largemouth bass growth rates are some of the fastest in the state. A 15-inch minimum length limit is currently in effect on all black bass. The goal of the length limit was to increase the abundance of preferred size bass (15 to 18 inches) and to increase anglers catch rates of bass of all sizes. Based on recent sampling, we have not seen a substantial increase in the number of preferred size fish. A Lake Wilson smallmouth bass caught by Bill Belew. During the fall, smallmouth bass congregate in the tailwaters of Wheeler Dam. Most anglers drift live threadfin shad, locally called yellowtails, in the swift current for trophy smallmouths. Other species that congregate below Wheeler Dam are hybrid and saltwater striped bass in the spring, sauger in the winter, and blue catfish and channel catfish during the summer. This area is very popular with both boats and bank anglers. A fishing platform directly below the dam is convenient for bank anglers. Both viewers rely heavily on javascript, we recommend that you have the most recent version of your browser. See the FAQs for more information. The Java Viewer has the capability to allow you to view the GSA's data with data you have on your computer. It, therefore, has more viewing and querying features and it can be slower to load than the HTML Viewer. The Java Viewer requires software download and installation. Please see the Java FAQ for installation instructions. Tutorials and frequently asked question (FAQ) pages are available for both viewers.
