I hope to add sites for destinations (with the appropriate acid commentary) in the near future. Bon voyage! Discount Travel Agencies STA and Council Travel are geared toward student travel but often have surprisingly good deals available for faculty as well. Both have long waits at their actual offices or on the telephone so checking out fares online is not such a bad idea, particularly since one-way tickets are often just half of the roundtrip fare, so you can estimate prices for complex itineraries. You can order ISIC cards and Eurail or British Rail passes from either agency. STA Travel stands for Student Travel Australia and did the best job of ferreting out low fares in my experience. Council Travel compete well with STA in finding low fares. Cheap Tickets allows non-students to get in on the action as well. Lowestfare.com

Extractions: An Historic Landmark of the Nation's Capital Serving the People Who Make History for More than 60 Years... Almost from the beginning of the English Colonial History of this continent, the crest of the National Airport site has been rich in historic significance. The Gravelly Point site has significance dating back to colonial days. Captain John Alexander built a mansion called "Abingdon" on the site in 1746. A descendent, Philip Alexander, donated most of the land on which the City of Alexandria was built, and it was so named in his honor. The mansion was purchased in 1778 by John Parke Custis, and was the birthplace of Eleanor "Nelly" Parke Custis, stepdaughter of President George Washington. Abingdon was destroyed by fire in 1930 and the ruins stabilized until 1998 when the Airports Authority preserved the site and housed artifacts found there in the Exhibit Hall, located in Terminal A. Airport facilities in Washington, D.C. had long been seriously inadequate early in the 20th Century. Hoover Field, located near the present site of the Pentagon, was the first major terminal to be developed in the Capital area, opening its doors in 1926. The following year, Washington Airport, another privately operated field, began service next door. In 1930, the economics of the Great Depression caused the two terminals to merge to form Washington-Hoover Airport. Bordered on the east by Highway One, with its accompanying high-tension electrical wires, and obstructed by a high smokestack on one approach and a dump nearby, the field was less than adequate. Incredibly, the airport's one runway was intersected by a busy vehicular street, Military Road, which had guards posted to flag down traffic during takeoffs and landings.

In , the airport's name was changed from Washington National Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Its original name remains on the stone façade of the main terminal, and it is still widely known as "National Airport". Because of limited gate availability and local noise limitations, almost all flights are to destinations within 2000 km (1250 miles). Notable are the USAir Shuttle and Delta Shuttle hourly flights to New York City and Boston, which are a favorite of federal officials and of those who have business with the federal government. Prior to the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attacks , the airport had 792 scheduled commercial flights a day. After the attacks the airport was closed for several weeks, and additional security procedures remain in place for flights into and out of DCA. The old Terminal A is currently being renovated and has only nine gates. Terminal B/C, opened in

To date, Prairie Crossing has sold over 90% of its 359 homes. It has recently opened new lots in its final residential section, Station Village, where homes are an easy walk from trains to Chicago and O'Hare. Prairie Crossing has become a national example of how to design our communities to support a better way of life. The community includes 359 home sites on 677 acres and has been designed to combine development with the preservation of open land and easy commuting to the city by rail. As sprawl eats up farmland and clogs highways with traffic, jeopardizing the quality of life in metropolitan areas across the country, Prairie Crossing offers attractive homes at great value. Station Village: Prairie Crossing's Final Phase Station Village, Prairie Crossing's final residential phase, offers all the conservation features for which Prairie Crossing is famous. The area has been designed to incorporate the best practices of small-town architecture and planning with the principles of conservation development. Every home site offers views of open space and ready access to approximately ten miles of on-site walking and biking trails. Some sites also have long views over restored prairies, wetlands, and 22-acre Lake Aldo Leopold. Almost all lots border neighborhood common areas with playgrounds and garden plots. As in traditional towns, sidewalks and front porches make it natural for neighbors to meet, and alleys provide access to rear garages. When Prairie Crossing is complete, Station Village residents will be able to walk to two train stations as well as proposed neighborhood shops and offices.

Urban Sites St. Leonard's Catholic Church and Rectory St. Leonard's Catholic Church and Rectory, constructed between 1902 and 1913 in Madison, are architecturally significant as representing the work of a prominent Nebraska architect, Jacob M. Nachtigall. A distinguished designer of Ecclesiastical architecture, Nachtigall designed mostly Catholic buildings in the state. The church is an outstanding example of the Romanesque Revival-style of architecture, with its massive articulated wall structures, round arches and powerful vaults. The rectory is designed in the Neo-Classical Revival-style of architecture. Warrick House The John Wesley and Grace Shafer Warrick House, located in Meadow Grove, is a large two-and-one-half story, nineteen-room frame house built in 1903. This extensive lagoon remediation project involves the cleanup of old oil lagoons under the direction of the US EPA. The remnant oil sludges are being removed and stabilized on-site by Sevenson Environmental Services, Inc. of Niagara Falls, New York. Once the sludges are stabilized, they are being disposed of in an on-site landfill which is being specially built to contain the stabilized sludge material. MEC has been contracted by Sevenson to provide construction quality control services for this project. Services provided by MEC include technical consultation, stabilized sludge cylinder strength testing, compaction testing of the stabilized material and soils, construction surveying and layout, and material volume documentation analysis. The project is on schedule and the landfill cover system is expected to be completed later this year.
