Accelerated learning is a cornerstone of the school system's program for helping students reach state and Wake County Board of Education math and reading standards. "State policy says that students must be proficient on end-of-year exams in 2001 and there will be no social promotion. We have a board goal of 95 percent of students tested being at grade level by 2003 on the state's end-of-year exam," said Bill McNeal, Associate Superintendent for Instructional Services. "To meet those goals, we need to do more."
