Extractions: This book has never been published in its entirety before in Britain, although a dissected version has been published in two volumes as The Planet Buyer and The Underpeople . Gollancz's publicity has announced that the book is being issued in their Classic SF series but the cover makes no mention of this. Inside the book the table of contents lists a biographical page of detail which when you turn to it is devoid of content, lacking even a page number. The biographical detail actually appears on the back of the dustjacket. Norstrilia is one of those books more heard of than seen. I was pleased to receive it for review because I'd never seen it in any of its forms, yet everywhere Cordwainer Smith is hailed as an important author. This edition comes with a quotation from David Pringle's Science Fiction: The 100 Best Novels on the front, which tends to agree with the three other sources I've consulted- "Vividly drawn and wonderfully suggestive ... confirms that Cordwainer Smith was one of science fiction's most original writers". Re-reading the entry on Norstrilia in David Pringle's book I notice that one of the details he gives about the story (the legality of the hero's computer) is wrong, and I tend to think that that his belief in Smith's originality is also wrong.

His agent has said that he's "ready to begin the next part of his life." It came as a shock to most that a player in his prime and one of the best in the league would retire. I was in denial at first, but now it has sunk in. Smith was a free agent at the end of this season, and in line for about $7 - 8 million per year for the next 4 - 5 years. Smith has always been a different kind of player. Some have questionned his dedication to football, and it looks like they've kind of been proven right. It's not a choice that I would have made, but I wish him luck. Biography: Robert Smith was a two time Mr. Football of Ohio. He was an All-American at Euclid High School and had career totals of 5,038 yards and 68 touchdowns. In 1990, he was the United Press International Freshman of the Year. In 1991, he sat out his sophomore year because his football coach wouldn't let him take a class because it interfered with practice. His junior year he led Ohio State in rushing and was an All Big-Ten honorable mention. He then left college early, passing up his senior year, to enter the NFL draft. However, he continued taking courses during the off-season, majoring in History and Chemistry. After his playing days are over, he's got aspirations of going to medical school. Reading the reviews i was amazed! i didn't think before i'd read them that anyone else had fallen for a character in a book but oh my, Julian! wow he's just the perfect man, and i did imagine myself as Jenny. How great it would have been for a shadow man to cross over to earth just to get you to love him. I would have gone with him, it's like L J Smith's words had seduced the minds of the readers into this extrordinary fixation with this beautiful boy, Julian. I absolutely loved the books to bits and sometimes when i'm out and i'll see something it reminds me of the book and i get this feeling and remember the fun i had readin them! So guyz, gals everyone. It doesn't cost an awful lot so why not buy it...you'll be surprised at how right us reviewers are about Julian!
