    Extractions: He eventually served at Queen Elizabeth's court. It was there where he met his wife, Elizabeth Breton. Gascoigne tried his hand in farming, however because of disagreements with his family, ended up in debtor's prison. He eventually found his way out by volunteering to serve the army in the Netherlands. Gascoigne suffered unfortunate incidences throughout most of his life and was never able to find resolve. One of theses included being accused of treason. He was acquitted, but lost most of his assets. In October 1577, he died of an undeterminate illness. Because his life was memorable for its controversial, it cast a great shadow over the brilliance of his work. In recent years, much debate circulated about Gascoigne because there were more that one Gascoignes' living in England at the same time and at least 2 of them were poets.
