The Carter Family Memorial Music Center Joe and Janette carter maintain the family tradition with weekly performances of oldtime country music in Hiltons, VA. http://www.fmp.com/orthey/carter.html
Extractions: www.carterfamilyfold.org S ince 1974, the Carter Music Center has presented programs of old time and bluegrass music every weekend. Formally established in 1979, the Center's objective is to promote old time music and pay tribute to the Original Carter Family (A.P., Sara, and Maybelle Carter). The Saturday concerts highlight the musical style made popular by the Carter Family, who are considered by many as country music's first family. In keeping with the traditional music style, no electrical instruments are allowed (everything is acoustic). There's lots of dancing and fun for the entire family. Shows are family-oriented; no alcohol is permitted at concerts. O nce each year, a two-day (Friday and Saturday) festival takes place the first weekend of August. Festival show times are from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day. Mountain craftsmen are on hand to sell their goods, and there's lots of good country cooking going on, too. C onsider spending a Saturday with us in rural southwest Virginia for an evening of musical entertainment you won't soon forget. Come early and browse through our museum before the show. Chances are you'll make some new friends and leave us with some fond memories. We'd love to have you visit us.

Extractions: Golders Green, London, England With her classical good looks and regal demeanor, it's not hard to image that Helena Bonham Carter is of noble pedigree. Her great-grandfather, Herbert Henry Asquith, was Britain's prime minister from 1908 to 1916, and it was this lineage which made it possible for her to attend private schools. Sister to two older brothers, Thomas and Edward, Helena found her calling at the tender age of five when visiting a friend, who as it turned out, was an actress. By thirteen, Bonham Carter was performing in school plays and had won a national poetry contest. It was around that time that illness struck the family without warning when her father, Raymond, suffered a stroke in the aftermath of a brain tumor operation. Although Helena diligently helped her mother in the care of her father, she also continued to persue her acting career. Three years after the tragedy, Helena landed her first role in a 1982 British TV movie.

HAVANA, Cuba (CNN) For more than two decades Cuban President Fidel Castro and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter were divided by the Cold War, communicating through clandestine intermediaries, calculated rhetoric and in the face of fierce opposition in both nations to Cuba-U.S. reconciliation. But the October 2000 funeral of flamboyant former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau brought together the two leaders as honorary pallbearers. And it was in Montreal that Castro first brought up the possibility of this week's historic meeting. Carter touches down in Havana Sunday morning, the first U.S. president to travel to the Caribbean island since Calvin Coolidge in January 1928. The five-day visit, during which Carter will meet with Castro as well as opposition leaders, comes at a tenuous period in U.S.-Cuban relations, with tough talk on human rights and biological weapons mixed with increased trade and ties between U.S. businesses and Cuba.
Cast Jason Carter As Sirius Black! Fan campaign to cast the actor as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. http://www.sff.net/people/Corgi/JasonCarter/
Extractions: Jason Carter is an experienced actor with a long career on both sides of the Atlantic (see his IMDb listing). From his role as Ranger Marcus Cole on J. Michael Straczynski's Babylon 5 Jason has acquired a loyal and enthusiastic fan following , not just in the U.S. but anywhere the show has aired. Harry Potter fandom has become huge on the Internet, and so has talking about Harry Potter. When the announcement that a feature film series would be made from the extremely popular novels, many media-minded fans' thoughts turned to casting and promptly to Jason Carter . Although many 'superstar' names have been bandied about as fantasy casting, no other British actor who has such excellent cross-Atlantic exposure has had his name brought up quite so often in serious discussion. Each thumbnail represents one page and does not necessarily include all pictures on the page. MRS. CARTER'S career is quit unique in stage annals. During the eighteen years of her stellar life in the theatre, from the time she made her first New York appearance, in 1890, until she made her first independent production in 1908, she played only six parts. During the latter portion of this period she was much admired in America as an actress of hysterically emotional roles, and her fame was widely established. Her position was indeed such as no one before her has achieved and maintained without a much more extensive demonstration of versatility. She was born Caroline Louise Dudley, and her parents were Kentuckians. Early in life she married Leslie Carter of Chicago. After eight years he secured a divorce, but she retained her former husband's name. Her early efforts were obscure and without significance except to David Belasco, who, in 1887, took her under his tutelage. Three years of obscurity followed, and in 1890 he announced her immediately as a star. On November 10 of that year she appeared as Kate Graydon in Paul Potter's drama, "The Ugly Duckling." Another year of obscurity followed this failure. The next time Mrs. Carter appeared it was in a musical play from the French, "Miss Helyett," and, though only indifferently effective, she was kept on tour for two years. After two additional years of eclipse she once more emerged into public view, still a Belasco protege, and was seen as Maryland Calvert in Mr. Belasco's "The Heart of Maryland." The principal scene was founded on the main incident in the poem "Curfew Shall Not Ring Tonight," and Mrs. Carter, as the heroine, who was supposed to swing out of the belfry on the bell's clapper, at last drew crowded houses.
