Case Study - AstraZeneca Breathe Easier Strategy Implementation Local physicians in five cities joined Olympic tennischampion, asthma sufferer, and Hispanic mother mary joe fernandez to educate http://www.bm.com/pages/cs/astrazeneca
Extractions: According to the American Lung Association, the rate of asthma among Hispanic-American children is higher than that of any other ethnic group. In addition, socioeconomic and cultural factors prevent asthma from being properly diagnosed and treated among the Hispanic population. To help combat this trend, AstraZeneca sponsored "Breathe Easier," an unbranded grassroots initiative designed to provide hope to parents of children with asthma that, with the proper diagnosis and treatment, the condition can be overcome. Since there is a high incidence of pediatric asthma and low rate of diagnosis and treatment among the Hispanic community, the goal of the campaign was to educate Hispanics about the disease and to drive them to a physician for proper diagnosis and treatment. Burson-Marsteller's objectives were to: build awareness of the importance of proper diagnosis and treatment of pediatric asthma among the Hispanic population; lead consumers to a Web site or toll-free number for additional information; encourage parents to recognize the symptoms of asthma in their children and take them to a physician to be properly diagnosed and treated; and, build awareness of AstraZeneca as a leader in respiratory. Local physicians in five cities joined Olympic tennis champion, asthma sufferer, and Hispanic mother Mary Joe Fernandez to educate parents about pediatric asthma. Through local English and Spanish language media interviews and events, they emphasized the importance for parents to recognize the symptoms of asthma in their children, schedule an appointment with a specialist, and get the condition properly diagnosed and treated.
