No problems for Fairview Fairview Rgs., 4; Caherdavin Clt., 1 Fairview Rangers advanced to the second round of the Munster Cup when they experienced little enough trouble in disposing of Caherdavin at the Fairgreen yesterday. The home side, not playing anything like their best football this season and who had to line out without their excellent youth players, who were on FAI duty later in the day (they won't have that problem any more this season), were always good enough to take the spoils. Caherdavin, however, it has to be said, put up a good show and were in front with a great goal from Conor Croke. The ever reliable Jimmy Sheehan levelled and tacked on a second before Paul Harmon and Ray Grant put the issue beyond absolute doubt.

Extractions: 'Awful' Ireland could make Dunywa eat his words INDIVIDUAL brilliance has over the past few years been one of South Africa's main weapons, a factor that has won vital games for Bafana Bafana. Against all the odds, someone has always emerged with a piece of magic to win games for them when it mattered most. But that brilliance was bound to desert South Africa at some point and it has happened in the US Cup where Bafana Bafana have been horribly exposed as an ordinary outfit that finds it difficult to play as a team. In being outplayed by a powerful and organised United States outfit and a second-string Mexican side, they have conceded eight goals in two games. Both opponents knew exactly how to exploit South Africa's weaknesses and did so with ease, while Bafana Bafana had no idea of how to break down their opponents. This evening they face Ireland, whose depleted squad is without 13 firstchoice players. Yet it is doubtful that things will get any better, with more of team manager Zola Dunywa's words threatening to backfire.

I've spent the last two weeks telling everyone I know that Senegal are going to pull off the surprise of the tournament. I never believed myself of course; at least I didn't have the conviction to put any money on it, which is the real shame (for me anyway). Kudos to the African's though, they were nothing short of fantastic. El Hadji Diouf Apart from Henry and Trezeguet striking the crossbar in spectacular fashion (if Henry's had gone in the goal of the tournament competition would already be settled) Senegal's defence was superb, restricting some of the World's best forwards to a handful of half chances. They were protected well by the midfield as well, and my man of the match Khalilou Fadiga was superb along with (another Liverpool signing) Salif Daio through the middle. Their work rate was magnificent; they certainly didn't let Patrick Vieira or Manu Petit hold on to the ball for too long, and broke up French attacks on numerous occasions with ease. Why didn't I put that bloody bet on. How will this affect the group? if France qualify in second place are England going to avoid them? download the

Golf Niall Quinn caddies for Walton By Brian Keogh (Irish Sun) Philip Walton has a secret weapon on his bag this week - retired Republic of Ireland striker Niall Quinn. And ten handicapper Quinn has jumped at the chance to help him turn his fortunes around with his own brand of psychology. Malahide man Walton has shown signs of his old form in recent months with top 30 finishes in the Italian and Aa St Omer Opens. Now he has decided to give regular caddie Dave Noble the week off and opted to give 6 foot 4 inch Quinn instead after becoming friends with the former footballer. Quinn explained: "I met Philip playing golf and we became friends. We looked back on our careers and found a pattern that wasn't too dissimilar. "I am not a golf person but what I do is try to get away from the things around me and try to focus. "Philip needs a little help on getting that focus and using the crowd and the thrill of seeing his name on a leaderboard again as a means to getting going. "It might come this week and it might not. There is no secret weapon to help you to get back but I think I can help him."
