Extractions: MANCHESTER, NH (Nov. 7) It may have been a different year but it was the same result. "Im very proud of what weve accomplished," said Cannon, whos Hawks became only the second team to register perfect seasons in both the regular season and tournament playoffs, joining the 1992 Bentley squad. Saint Anselm went a perfect 8-0-0 in the NE-10 regular season and downed Bentley 4-2 in yesterdays semifinal. The Hawks won their 11th straight game in the process in moving to 17-2-0 overall, the same record they had at this time last season. Merrimack, which had one three straight NE-10 titles prior to the Hawks recent run, finished its season 9-9-1 overall. Like last years tournament title game, Cannon went at the Warriors right away, using three forwards to press the Merrimack defense. "Weve been very good defensively all year," noted Cannon. "So we knew we could go right after them because we knew we could defend them very well." That strategy went right to work from the starting whistle, getting off three quality shots on the Warriors in the first three minutes.

The Clippers, who improved to 15-3-0 overall, will be seeking their first ECAC title since 1992. HOST SAINT ANSELM used four first half goals to blitz the Warriors and earn a return trip to the final. Senior Jason KARALEXIS (Weymouth, MA) also added two goals to pace the victory. Peter KINNEY (Londonderry, NH), put Saint Anselm out in front 1-0 in the 14th minute, being sent in alone after a Brian Irwin (Windham, NH) pass, but Merrimack showed fight early on and needed two sparkling saves from John MacLEOD (Methuen, MA) to keep the Warriors at bay. Merrimack tied the game on a pretty Marc BUCALO header off a Steve GOULD cross pass in the 24th minute. Merrimack almost tied it ten minutes later when Gould took and errant Saint Anselm pass, walked in alone and boomed a 20 yarder that MacLeod caught with a sprawling kick save off the end of his foot. The save seemed to fire up Saint Anselm as the Hawks increased its offensive pressure and broke the game open with two quick scores near the end of the first half.

Kenny Miller's second-half goal, the Scotland international's first in the Premiership, was good enough to give Dave Jones's strugglers all three points in front of an elated home crowd. It was a disappointing final appearance for United's England defender Rio Ferdinand before he starts his eight-month suspension for failing to take a drugs test as he limped off in the 50th minute. Wolves's victory was also down to keeper Michael Oakes who produced a series of fine saves to deny Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
