Set in the new Yerba Buena Ice Center atop the new wing of the Moscone Convention Center in downtown San Francisco, this ice show was a fresh departure from what we are used to seeing. Sure, there were the skating stars: Brian, of course, and Rudy, as well as Nancy Kerrigan, Liz Punsalen and Jerod Swallow, Surya Bonaly, Jozef Sabovcik and others. What really set this event apart, however, were the addition of Urban Angels, a dance trio performing throughout the show, and graffiti artist Chris St. John, who painted a beautiful portrait, start to finish, during the show! No one could tell me what would happen to the painting after the show. Rudy, Liz and Jerod had flown in from Omaha that very day and were thus not able to rehearse. Jozef also arrived the same day, from Salt Lake City, and missed rehearsals. Nonetheless, all gave excellent performances. Rudy first did his "Sounds of Silence" routine, and then, after intermission, brought down the house with "Send in the Clowns." Jozef did two Bruce Springsteen numbers, Nancy looked beautiful skating to Selena's version of "A Boy Like That", and Brian was, well, Brian. Simply amazing. All in all, it was a memorable evening. Kudos to Brian and White Canvas for a job well done. The kids of Youth Skate have a lot to be thankful for.

As one of the computer-animated visuals CBS Sports will use during its broadcast of the Nagano Games, Ergoman may distinguish himself in yet another arena-as part of what may be the most ambitious display of digital imagery ever to cross the airwaves. "A package of this length, running with the kind of frequency and worldwide viewing that the Olympics is going to get . . . is probably the most extensive dissemination of computer animation from one source that we've ever seen," said Robi Roncarelli, a computer animation industry analyst. In collaboration with Los Angeles-based REZN8, a leading design and computer animation house, CBS has developed a digitally modeled, three-dimensional action sequence for nearly every event in the Games-about 20 in all. Each competition venue was re-created in detail, then animated to give viewers a glimpse of the challenges faced by the athletes. The sequences will be used primarily in pre-produced features before each event. In some cases, commentators will use excerpts during live coverage to point out the strengths and weaknesses of an athlete's performance.

I can adapt to anyplace. I would love to go on a big tour but Blade is now four and a half and is in pre-school so won't be able to travel with me. Next year, I will be living full-time in Toronto, so that Blade can attend school. I am a member of the Cricket Club in Toronto so I can get ice time to train. Although I like training in Sun Valley, Toronto is the first city I came to from Europe. Tracy (Wainman) and I share custody of Blade and I am a Canadian citizen.

Video: The Lawrence Welk Show - The Lennon Sisters: Easy To Remember - This is certainly one of the best specials ever produced about the talented stars of Lawrence Welk's weekly musical dance-fest. Although the program is hosted by (and tells the story of) the lovely Lennon Sisters, it also offers a marvelous portrait of the singers and musicians who performed in the earlier years of the show Alice Lon, Big Tiny Little, Pete Fountain, Rocky Rockwell and many others. There are plentiful clips of these stars at their best, all tied together with present-day (well, early 90's) footage of the Lennons reminiscing about their days when they were part of Lawrence's musical family. A must-have for any Welk show fan! Video: The Sisters of the Gion - I just had a chance to see this beautiful movie, and once again I have to revise my ideas about Japanese cinemait's even more profound than I'd believed. What strikes the viewer immediately is the masterful use of shadow. The great novelist Kawabata wrote about the shadows of traditional Japanese homes and buildings, lit by lamps instead of neon, and this film utilizes shadow with the touch of a Rembrandt. The viewer is pulled into another world, the lovely and cruel world of pre-war Asia. The director explores the cruel circumstances of the sisters with compassion, and complete realism. The viewer knows with absolute certainty that the sisters will never escape their destinynot because of any moral failing, but because there's no way out. If you haven't seen this moviewatch it very soon and visit a world you've never dreamed of.
