New York Daily News - Hockey - Isles Ready For Home Cooking Everyone was shocked we won that one, winger steve webb said following an optionalpractice. Now, no one is shocked about winning, we expect to win. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/story/182882p-158713c.html
Extractions: DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Mark Parrish (l.) and Janne Ninimaa hope to celebrate more tonight in Game 3. The Islanders were back at Nassau Coliseum yesterday, and the circumstances appeared similar to those when they returned home a year ago. So why does this opening-round road split in Tampa feel different from the one the Isles claimed in the first two games last year in Ottawa? "It's a different situation; we won the first one there last year by surprise. Everyone was shocked we won that one," winger Steve Webb said following an optional practice. "Now, no one is shocked about winning, we expect to win. ... Expectations are higher for this squad this year." Another glaring difference has been the Islanders' dominance on Coliseum ice this season. They posted 25 home victories, the most in the Eastern Conference, in an old-style barn, which houses four Stanley Cup banners from the 1980s and unmistakably gets louder than the new wave of expansive money-making arenas like the one owner Charles Wang is seeking. The decibel levels will be high for Game 3 tonight.

Extractions: DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Rick DiPietro sees goal light go on twice in first seven minutes and Isles never bounce back, falling, 3-0, to Lightning at Coliseum. After two sluggish games, the Lightning's top players started to rediscover their spark. The Islanders are running out of time to find theirs. With a 3-0 loss to the Lightning last night at the Coliseum in the pivotal third game of their first-round playoff series, the Isles have been shut out twice and will need to get their offense back together by tomorrow night's Game 4. If they don't, the Lightning will have a chance to end the series in Tampa on Friday night. "Bring on the pressure," said NHL scoring leader Martin St. Louis, who buried his first two goals of the series, including the game-sealing empty-netter. "Anyone who doesn't want the pressure this time of year, shouldn't be here." After averaging nearly one point per game in his first two postseasons with the Islanders, $90 million center Alexei Yashin has reverted to the unproductive form that got him booed out of Ottawa. Yashin hasn't had a point in the series. The Isles' top three regular-season scorers - Trent Hunter, Mariusz Czerkawski and Oleg Kvasha - also haven't approached the scoresheet in the series. And streaky sniper Mark Parrish has failed to bury several in-close chances he ordinarily would slam home with his eyes closed.

Webb will report to the Sound Tigers. Prior to joining Pittsburgh this season, Webb had played his entire NHL career with the Islanders. From 1996 through the end of last season, the Peterborough, Ontario native played in 311 games with the Islanders, recording five goals, 13 assists, 18 points and 530 penalty minutes. Webb had four goals, seven assists, 11 points and 48 penalty minutes in 30 games with Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, as well as two penalty minutes in five games with Pittsburgh this season. He had one goal and 75 penalty minutes in 49 games with the Islanders last season. Webb was originally drafted in the seventh round, with the 176th pick, of the 1994 NHL draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He spent his first professional season, 1995-96, with the International Hockey League's Detroit Vipers and Colonial Hockey League's Muskegon Fury after a three-year, 1992-95, junior career split between the Ontario Hockey League's Windsor Spitfires and Peterborough Petes.
