Extractions: The "Stock Crew," a Boston-based fan group formed in honor of enforcer P.J. Stock, might have to move to Philadelphia if they want to watch their favorite player. The P.J. Stock era in Boston all but ended last week as the Providence Bruins traded Stock to the Philadelphia Phantoms, the minor league affiliate of the Flyers. The only way Stock can ever come back to the Boston organization now is if the Bruins call him to the NHL level here in Boston. They still hold his rights but he can't go back to Providence because it was Providence who traded him. So in essence, this is a loan by the organization as a whole, not a trade. According to a team source, the chances of him returning are highly unlikely. The chances of his return to the NHL are slim too, as the Flyers or any other NHL club would have to take on his two-year contract the Bruins signed him to this past summer which was to pay him just under $1 million. Or the Bruins could buy him out, which would be the more likely scenario. This could prove to be a costly move for the Bruins, both on the ice and off. Stock was a big hit with his teammates. He also brought many longtime Bruin fans back to the lunch pale era of Bruins hockey, a reminder of the days when Stan Jonathan, Terry O'Reilly and Wayne Cashman ignited the Boston Garden crowd.
Extractions: Former Bruins enforcer and fan favorite P.J. Stock was back in the Bay State last Sunday. This was the first time Stock had played in the area since he was demoted to Providence and then loaned to the Philadelphia Phantoms for Andre Savage on October 29. Stock knew some Bruins fans that cheered for him during his days in Boston might make the trek out to Lowell and see the game against the Lock Monsters, but he never imagined "The Stock Crew" would be out in such force. Stock was named the game's number one star after winning the game on a penalty shot in the second period. He received a loud ovation when he stepped out on the ice and was introduced as the game's top performer after the game. He acknowledged the crowd with his signature wave but that was just the beginning. Two peewee teams were scheduled to play a game after the AHL teams left. The group of kids got ready for their match-up outside the Phantoms dressing room. When Stock walked out of the locker room he saw them. Instead of opting for an alternate route out to the team bus, he looked at the security guard and said "Don't worry; I just want to say hi."

Extractions: P.J. Stock's Journal March 27, 2003 - I have to kick things off this week by talking about the beautiful weather we've had in Boston over the past couple of days. My sensitive side is really starting to kick in here. It's great to look at my grass and see all the salt and sand on it from the winter! I've got to get rid of that. I actually had my first barbecue on Tuesday night, which was great. Made some steak for my wife and I. With the weather outside and all, everything just looks good right now, and it's great knowing that the playoffs are just around the corner. Hopefully we're rolling in to them in the right direction. Speaking of the right direction, I think everyone on the team was really happy with the selection of Mike Knuble for the Seventh Player Award. Everyone's really happy for Mike. He's a guy everyone likes on the team. He works really hard every day. I played with him in New York and it's just so good for a guy like him to be rewarded and recognized on a pretty good team. Kudos to Mike Knuble and kudos to the fans for making the right choice this year. I guess the thing on everyone's mind right now is the coaching change that happened about a week ago when we were in Phoenix. It had been rumored in Boston for quite some time and the rumors finally came to be true. It's a tough situation to be in for the whole organization, including the players, the coaches and the managers, when the team starts off so strong and then starts losing after that. We looked for so many different solutions to the problem and just couldn't find one. We had meetings, we tried to change lines, we changed goalies, put defensemen at forward and forwards at defense, and nothing seemed to work.
Extractions: October 21, 2002 - Well, I'm checking in from Toronto with my first journal entry of the season. We're winding down a long road trip tonight against the Maple Leafs, and hopefully we'll come out with a win. I'd say that tonight I'm definitely looking for a hat trick, especially if I'm going to catch the 41 goals Billy Guerin scored last year. If I'm going to catch up, I'm going to have to get to work soon. But seriously, we're looking forward to ending this trip on a good note. There's no better way to cap off a road trip than with a win, and especially against Toronto. I guess I'll start off my first journal giving you a little bit of my personal background. I grew up in an area of Montreal called Dollard-des-Ormeaux, which is also known as the West Island of Montreal. That part of Montreal is more English speaking, and all of my friends were English-speaking. My mom is perfectly bi-lingual, and we learned French in school, but if you're not in that environment you don't really learn it that well. My family includes my father Phil, my mother Cathy, my older sister Jill who is 28 and my younger brother Dean who is 25. Jill is engaged to a guy named Timmy and Dean to a girl named Paula, and both weddings will be next summer, so that's going to be a busy one. My wife, Jean Marie, is from New York. I met her my first year in New York on a blind date, when I was playing for the Rangers. We had our first child, a son named Tyson Dean (we gave him the middle name Dean after my brother), this past July 7th, which also happened to be our one-year wedding anniversary. We also have one other member of our family an American Bulldog named Jolie.
