Extractions: Miroslav Satan - BUF (RW): After missing training camp for a salary raise, Satan had 7 goals and 4 assists in his first 30 games. In his last 10 games though, he scored 8 goals and notched 4 assists for 12 points. Coincidence? No dude, you need a training camp to be in shape...when will players learn? Sheldon Souray - MTL (D): WOW! He leads the league by far for the goals scored by a defensemen with 13. I predicted before the season's start that Souray would be one of the big two reasons (the other one being Jose Theodore coming back in force) for the Habs playoffs participation. The only thing is, I said that Souray would be an incredible help DEFENSIVELY, not on offense. His best season before this one was a whopping 3 goals, the main reason he's so good this year? He always had a hard precise shot, but he now has incredible confidence and shoots all the time on the net. Every time he receives the puck, you now it's going straight to the goalie and quite often, it results in a goal. He will definitely be considered for the All-Star game and it would be a disgrace if he isn't chosen.
Extractions: To many, seven is a lucky number. But unfortunately for the Sabres, seven is the number that signifies their current losing streak. Since starting the month of December with a win over the Blackhawks, the Sabres have come upon rough times. Their recent skid has been attributed to their inconsistency, and their inability to score. Key players such as Chris Drury, Miroslav Satan, and Ales Kotalik have been disappointing, and as former Sabre Dominik Hasek is starting to get in sync in Detroit, the tandem of Mika Noronen and Martin Biron has made fans long for the days of the Dominator. The main cause for concern for the Sabres deals with Miroslav Satan, whom the Sabres re-signed after a contract dispute for a four-year deal. Satan has been dreadful at both ends of the game after an All-Star season, garnering just 14 points and owning a -17 rating. Despite signing to a long-term contract before the start of the season, rumors are starting to float around that Satan could be dealt if his play continues to flounder. The play of new acquisitions has been underwhelming to say the least, especially in the case of Andy Delmore. Delmore led all defensemen in goal-scoring last season, yet in his first 19 games with Buffalo he's managed just a point. He's in Lindy Ruff's doghouse and was a healthy scratch for a few games, and lately he has been bothered by a troublesome groin injury. Chris Drury has put up decent numbers with 19 points, but fans were expecting Drury to put up offense more often. The jury is still out on Drury (who is now out for a week with a shoulder injury).

Extractions: toshokan! toshokan! toshokan! Main Why, why, why, do the Mavericks keep losing? Where was my team from last season? Why did they lose to Detroit ? Why was Michael Finley only shooting 2-10? Who on earth decided it would be a good idea to let Antoine Walker take 5 3 point shots in one game (it goes without saying that he missed them all). WHY WON'T THEY GIVE THE BALL TO DIRK MORE?!!!! In order to distract myself I'm going to blog about hockey. I think that in all of sports, hockey players have the best names. I can see why Todd McFarlane (who designed the Edmonton Oilers third jersey ) turned to the rich world of hockey when coming up for a name for a character in Spawn, Tony Twist Here are my favorite hockey player names, in no particular order: Kimmo Timonen , say it soft and its almost like praying! No, I have fond memories of this name because of all the magic marker fumes I inhaled while making a "Go Kimmo Go!" banner to take with me to the Russia vs Finland game in the Winter Olympics. Radek Bonk , what a great last name.
