Despite losing in overtime to the Florida Panthers on Thursday night, les Habitants now have stacked up points in 10 of their last 11 games. With nine games remaining in the season, the best is yet to come. The week that was After pulling respectfully through a two week, four-game schedule, the Canadiens looked to conclude a near perfect road trip in the West, as they faced the Mighty Ducks in Orange County in a three-game week. Rob Niedermeyers ice-breaking goal would come early in the game and troubled the senses of discipline-bound head coach Claude Julien. The end of the period belonged to Saku Koivu, though, whom completed a beautiful set up by Richard Zednik, for his 13th of the season. The game-tying goal was one of five unanswered goals, in which Zednik, Pierre Dagenais, Michael Ryder and Steve Begin pitched in for the 5-2 stomp. That same night, as we know it, marked an event that went the rounds in Hockeys vast world... The Habs were bringing home 8-points in their luggage and prepared themselves for their Thursday game against the Florida Panthers: an underachieved team which is currently to take seriously for a playoff spot.

In addition both my boys finished in the top 30 which gives me an additional source of pride. I have to admit that my winning was a bit of a surprise. After all my initial strategy - just do not pick any of the same players chosen by Brian Smale - was not really that unusual and I understand was used by many of the other poolsters. It appears to have also been a successful strategy for 15 of the last 16 rogue puck (TM) pools. I understand that there are people who have been part of the hockey pool for years but have never even been close. For those people I say just keep trying! Eventually there will be enough past winners who forget to enter that you too can have a chance to win! My plan is to carefully mount my rogue puck (TM) on my fireplace mantle at home. It will be to the left of the puck which gave me my first game winning goal in hockey back in 1990. Hopefully it will not take me as long to get the second rogue puck as it did my second game winning goal. Thanks to Bill for organizing the pool once again and for doing the score adjustments when needed!

Extractions: Live Game Radio Box Score MONTREAL (Ticker) Chris Kelly's goal with 5:52 remaining gave the Ottawa Senators a 4-3 preseason triumph over the Montreal Canadiens. A 1999 third-round draft pick who has yet to play in the NHL, Kelly blasted a shot from the left faceoff circle over the left shoulder of goaltender Jose Theodore. Coming off a disappointing season, Theodore got the start and played the first period. But he returned to the net with 6:43 to go in the second after Eric Fichaud broke a finger on his right hand. The Canadiens also lost captain Saku Koivu to a right knee injury. Defensemen Peter Smrek and Zdeno Chara each had two assists for Ottawa, which also got goals from Serge Payer , defenseman Chris Phillips and Radek Bonk Defenseman Craig Rivet, Gordie Dwyer and Yanic Perreault tallied for Montreal. Extractions: OTTAWA (Ticker) A goaltender is supposed to be the last line of defense. Against the Ottawa Senators, Jose Theodore often looked like the only defense for the Montreal Canadiens. Theodore made 39 saves and Jan Bulis scored his second goal of the game with 7:34 remaining as the Canadiens escaped with a 3-2 triumph over the Senators. Montreal continually had trouble with Ottawa's impressive team speed and again struggled against the Senators' power play. But Theodore repeatedly bailed out the Canadiens, avenging a pair of losses earlier this season in which he surrendered 11 goals. Theodore was at his best in the second period, when Montreal was outshot, 18-3. At one point, All-Star Marian Hossa was able to circle the Canadiens' twice before Montreal was called for a penalty that led to defenseman Wade Redden's tying power-play tally.

Extractions: Red Sox Patriots Celtics Bruins ... Bruins April 17, 2004 MONTREAL Once Darren Langdon scored a rare goal, the Montreal Canadiens knew this was their night. ADVERTISEMENT Langdon scored for the first time in over two years and Saku Koivu netted the go-ahead goal in the second period, leading the Canadiens to a 5-2 win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night. That tied the first-round playoff series 3-3, forcing a deciding Game 7 on Monday in Boston. Jose Theodore made 22 saves and Yanic Perreault, Alex Kovalev, and Jan Bulis also scored for Montreal, which won its second in a row after falling behind 3-1 in the series. The Canadiens have never won a seven-game series in which they trailed 3-1. Sergei Samsonov scored twice for Boston, including a goal off a partial breakaway 4:36 into the third which drew the Bruins within 3-2. Koivu assisted on Kovalev's empty-net goal with 40.5 seconds remaining. Bulis scored with 3.7 seconds left. Samsonov notched his first goal of the series 7:16 in to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. His shot off a faceoff in the Canadiens' zone squirted through Theodore's pads and rolled slowly over the goal line. The sellout crowd yelled in a vain attempt to let the Canadiens goalie know where the puck was. Langdon, who hadn't recorded a point in 20 previous playoff games, drew Montreal even at 12:37 on his first goal since Dec. 22, 2001.
