(AP/Martin Meissner) It's the first time Canada has won back-to-back world hockey titles since 1958-59, when amateur clubs represented the country at the event. Atlanta Thrashers forward Dany Heatley was named most valuable player and best forward of the tournament. "It's great to repeat," said Heatley. "Both years are special. Coming together as a group is such a Canadian thing. We came together and really believed in each other. We fought back and clawed back in the last three games, it's such an awesome way to win."

Extractions: The Globe and Mail TORONTO When Tie Domi and Jonas Hoglund set out to design and build their dream homes, their goals were the same: a house that would serve as both dwelling and retreat. But the way they achieved their goals was as different as the way each plays hockey for the Toronto Maple Leafs with one exception. Both players say their wives, Leanne Domi and Maria Hoglund, were the driving forces behind the projects. Mr. Hoglund, an unassuming fellow who quietly plies his trade on the left wing for the Maple Leafs, bought a piece of land on the shore of Lake Vanern, the largest lake in his native Sweden, and built a relatively modest three-bedroom country home. Near the southwestern town of Hammaro, where he grew up, the house was started in September, 2001, and completed the following June. With the Hoglunds in Toronto during the hockey season, they were long-distance supervisors, communicating with the architect by telephone, fax and E-mail.

Now that Curtis Joseph is gone, Pat Quinn will start searching to Los Angeles for Stephane Fiset, Montreal for Jeff Hackett or Dallas for Eddie Belfour. He won't go to Tampa for Kevin Weeks or New York for Mike Richter. Expect a name like Darcy Tucker or Jonas Hoglund and a draft pick for either of these goalies above. 2) Paul Kariya (Anaheim) - A man who is SO good but can't flourish because he's playing for a terrible team. Expect him to be traded by the deadline. Rumor: Paul Kariya, Oleg Tverdovsky and Steve Shields to Toronto for Nik Antropov, Aki Berg, Kevin Pillar, Brad Boyes and a First Round Draft Pick (Very good trade for Toronto).
