Extractions: By Clint Guerrero Hockey and Newton's First Law Hockey and Newton's Second Law Hockey and Newton's Third Law Hockey and Principles of Momentum Hockey and Newton's First Law During the 17 th century, Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) created three laws of motion that are still used today, only slightly altered. Newton's first law states that an object at rest tends to stay at rest, and an object in motion tends to continue in motion at constant speed in a straight line. This law is also known as the law of inertia. For example, when Wayne Gretzky shoots a puck on a virtually frictionless surface of ice, the puck will continue to move in a straight line and at constant velocity until the goalie catches the puck and stops its motion. In compliance with this half of Newton's first law, when a puck is simply placed on the ice surface and no player applies a force to it, it will not move and the puck will tend stay at rest. Back to top Hockey and Newton's Second Law Sir Isaac's second law of motion states that the more force there is on an object, the more it accelerates but the more massive it is, the more it resists acceleration. Or in other words, the force of an object is equal to the product of its mass and acceleration. Force and mass are directly proportional. This law can be easily written in the formula: F=ma For example, when Chris Chelios, the star defenseman and captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, applies a greater force to a puck of constant mass, the acceleration is increased. In addition, the less force Chris exerts on the puck, the slower the acceleration will be.
Dear Theoren Fleury - Ice Hockey theoren fleury It was recently reported that theo fleury said he fleury, listedat 5 6 and 182 pounds at 35 dont see how the true hockey fan would http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art16687.asp
Extractions: Hmmm, here is what I am thinking: How many people out there really care if Fleury does ever play in the NHL again? I dont believe the league needs to adopt a policy, as so many other sport leagues do, of continually giving substance abuse offenders chance after chance. That would put the league in a sorry state. Fleury, listed at 5 6 and 182 pounds at 35 years of age, has made claims that people dont want to watch 1-0 games and that is the way teams are trying to win. It would be ludicrous to think that teams are trying to win by a 1-0 score. If that were their playing philosophy one lucky goal would cost them the win. Playing a defensive style may be the goal of many teams, but I really dont see how the true hockey fan would find that boring. These sound more like the words of a one-dimensional player. Fleury has achieved marks of 455 goals and 633 assists to total 1088 points in 1084 games. Respectable numbers to say the least, but I do hope that the league recognizes the need to protect its reputation and not allow the leagues rules to become a joke. The NHL does not need the likes of a Darryl Strawberry situation as in Major League Baseball.

Editorial/opinion By DAMIAN CRISTODERO, Times Staff Writer published July 14, 2002 Did Lightning general manager Jay Feaster inquire about Theo Fleury because of serious interest or because the free-agent right wing is a distressed commodity who will play for a lot less than the $7-million he made last season? Hard to say because neither Feaster nor Fleury's agent, Don Baizley, will confirm contact. But they aren't denying it. Baizley did say his client will not make contract decisions until August. Fleury, 34, would seem an unlikely fit for Tampa Bay. Not that he wouldn't help. The Oxbow, Saskatchewan, native has 443 goals, is a seven-time All-Star and won Olympic gold with Canada at Salt Lake City. But Fleury, traded last month by the Rangers to the Sharks, is beset by personal demons and family problems that could make his signing and the team's financial investment risky.
