Extractions: Playoff Calculator Click here to contact us! Every year for the playoffs, we provide a Playoff Calculator. Once the teams and matchups for the playoffs are set, there is a link from THE Hockey Pool home page labeled "Playoff Calculator". After you click on it, it prompts you to predict the winning team for each playoff round and how many games you think they will win in. Then, based on the playoff format for the year, it will present you with your predicted match-ups for the subsequent round and allow you to predict the winners again. Once your predictions are made all the way to the finals, the Calculator will look at how many games you predict each team to play in the post season. Then, based on the predicted number of games, the Calculator will compute the expected point output of each player in the post-season based on their regular season points per game. Does this give you a list you would want to draft from? Probably not unless you are really certain about who's going to win which match up, but it can give you an indication of which player you should draft first given the choice between a few equal scorers in later rounds. Drop us an email using the 'Suggestions, Comments, or Insane Ramblings' feedback option and let us know how you use the calculator or what could be added to make it more useful to you.
Hockeybird.com: Rangers Throttle Isles, Demand Lunch Money Mailbag. Q Any truth to the rumors that the Rangers are looking in Europeto find a replacement for greg devries? hockey is different here. http://mt.hockeybird.com/archives/002089.html
Extractions: Rangers Throttle Isles, Demand Lunch Money Wednesday - January 14, 2004 The Broadway Blueshirts whip the Islanders, 3-2, tie Tampa, 1-1, and then smack the Islanders again and call them Sally in a 4-1 drubbing. Almost 20% of the Rangers total points this season has come from the Isles thanks, girls! Now put on this lipstick, tie your hair back with a bow and prance around the coliseum singing "Waterloo." After phoning in most of last week and it wasn't even a good phone call, more like some late-nite drunken message left on an answering machine the Rangers are semi-hot these days, thanks mostly to our prison bitches east of the Midtown Tunnel. All this despite the fact that our best defenseman is hurt and Glen Sather has legally gone insane. Good times. The Return of the Dude Mike Dunham's last three games: .933, .949, .947 SV% and 2.00, 1.93, 1.00 GAA, five points total. The Dude is hot. It's tough to read anything into this, as Mike Dunham OWNS the Islanders if the Isles are our prison bitches, Mike Dunham is the evil corrections officer than locks the shower door but Dunham has been working with the Rangers goalie coach of late and it seems to be paying off. In all three games, Dunham denied at least one sure goal with an all-out circus save. Those are the kinds of things that separate good goalies from the Garth Snows of the world. Have I picked on the Isles enough yet? Here, Jason Blake, put on this dress and dance the macarena. It's the little moments like these that keep me a Rangers fan.
Hockeybird.com: Germs, Phlegm, Hacking Cough Propel Rangers greg devries is on an absolute tear of late, with three points and a +9 in thelast five games. Who knew hockey was such a homoerotic sport. Dear Mailsl*t. http://mt.hockeybird.com/archives/002057.html
Extractions: Germs, Phlegm, Hacking Cough Propel Rangers Wednesday - December 31, 2003 Happy Holidays! The New York Rangers stricken to a man with the flu, right down to Herr Chancellor Sather somehow manage to fight through their congestion with improbable back-to-back come-from-behind overtime victories against the Kayutes and the Kings. Let's hear it for influenza! Lost among the aspirin and mucusy tissues is the fact that the Rangers were badly outplayed in both games, and short of scoring on their own goalie ... actually, they did score on their own goalie (Jed Ortmeyer's fantastic deflection over Jussi Markkanen's shoulder). How is this team winning games? Who knows. Anyway, the Rangers have been down in the third period for the past three games and taken five of six points in the end. Yippee kay-yay, mother f**ker. Hugs for everybody. Dude or Jussi? If I could get serious for a moment, as some of you may actually read this column for insightful information there is a legitimate goaltending battle between Mike Dunham and Jussi Markkanen right now. No one is talking about it, and Dunham is still technically number one, but shakey play by The Dude lately has opened the door for the Jussinator and he hasn't quite disappointed. Dunham stole two points in the get-the-f-out-of-Dodge win against Phoenix, but the Jusser stole two points last night against LA. My advice? If you have one of these guys, get the other. I think they're going to tandem down the stretch, maybe at a 60/40 rate. I haven't been this excited about a fight since CT punched that French dude on Real World: Paris.

Extractions: Gary Roberts is recovering nicely and should be back in the line-up in the next few weeks. I know the decision to send a player backto the farm isn't really too hard. My personal opinion sees Paul Healey going back. The real question is, will they re-unite the playoff line from last season. I would love to see the lines as follows. Anyone notice a problem? No Domi! Hmmm... Looks like we have a problem on our hands. We could send Antropov back down, but that would make Quinn look like the laughing stock of the league. Looks like the only way out of this one is to trade some bodies. Look for a trade in the Leafs system in the very near future. The Leafs will have a solid playoff line-up once Quinn is done toying. Look for the Leafs to be back in the Conference Finals this year. (leafazoid29)

Extractions: DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER You can bet Scott Stevens and the Devils will challenge for another Stanley Cup. Mario Lemieux and his Penguins face uncertain future with labor strife looming. Hockey players have an orderly schedule. They know their team will play 82 games this season. They can count on seeing a divisional rival team six times. They plan on playoffs beginning a few days after the season ends on April 4. And in early June, someone kisses the Stanley Cup. What happens after that is anyone's guess. Looming over the banner-raising ceremonies, lurking behind the national anthem singers, and more nagging than a mascot's antics is the specter in 2003-04 of the End of the NHL As We Know It. In September 2004, the collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and the NHL Players Association expires. The league believes it is imperative to put a brake on player salaries, which it says eat up 76% of a team's revenue. The players say they will never accept any form of a salary cap, no matter how it's gussied up and renamed. So despite a first-step meeting Wednesday between management and the players, an accord seems a long way off. A lengthy lockout could permanently scar the NHL, as it puts the financial health of some shaky franchises right on the fault line. If the doors are closed for a year, maybe some franchises will be shuttered forever. However, league commissioner Gary Bettman says that skyrocketing salaries are a bigger threat to a league that claims to have suffered $300 million in losses in 2002-03.
