Extractions: In this photo from the 80s, Michel Bergeron models the Nordiques' baseball uniform, apparently from a charity game. Bergeron was drafted by the Nordiques in 1974, but never played for the team. I assume he was in the front office at one point. Thanks to Celine Audy for this very unusual scan. The following is a complete listing of players who suited up for the Quebec Nordiques from the team's 1972 WHA debut through the final, lockout-shortened 1995 season. Some of these players appeared in one game only; others had successful careers of 10 seasons or more with Les Nords . Avalanche Sanctuary Do they even like it here? These were the sorts of questions Colorado hockey fanshad of the Avs squad in that first year. Adam Deadmarsh and rene corbet. http://groups.msn.com/AvalancheSanctuary/anatomyofarivalry.msnw
Extractions: Anatomy of a Rivalry Commentary by St. Patrick You can talk all you want about Yankees vs. Red Sox. You can go on all day about Celtics and Lakers. You can opine about the Raiders and... well... just about anyone in the NFL. You can even talk about the Uncivil Wars between Edmonton and Calgary. But in the modern era of professional sports, there is no rivalry more venomous, more heated and more passionate than the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings. And not just among the players- the fans pretty much avidly dislike one another, too. So, how did this passionate dislike happen? Why do these two teams, their respective fans, and their respective home cities come to so revile the other? Why does just about every Avalanche fan you can ask want to see the eyes of the Detroit squad blackened and swollen shut? Well, therein lies a little story... To understand this rivalry, we have to go back to the beginning. For now, as I begin to reveal the full story, suffice it say that the Red Wings are the unspoken member of the Axis of Evil. They are Darth Vader, the Borg and the Wicked Witch of the West, all rolled into one nasty package. We Avs fans hate them because they are who they are- no other reason is necessary. And by the time you finish this, you'll hate them, too.

"Could be Canada's World Junior goalie if lockout ends before tournament." (Roy Cummings, The Hockey News Future Watch 1995) "Moss' last name should be Murphy, as in Law. Injuries gave Moss a chance to show his worth last season, but his own injury took it away. Though he lacks consistency, he showed enough last season to prove he's capable of being a solid NHL backup. Only 24, Moss has plenty of time to reach his full potential. Moss is behind Giguere in terms of talent, but he should still make the NHL as a backup relatively soon." (The Sports Forecaster 1999-2000, p. 175) "After being stuck behind more highly touted prospects in Calgary, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, Moss is loking for a decent shot at winning a job somewhere. A standout goaltender in the IHL, he needs a strong training camp." (The Sports Forecaster 2000-01, p. 218)
Extractions: December 2000 Unlikely Combination Boosts Penguins' Offense Corbet, Kraft and Morozov Blend Well Together By Bob Grove In the middle of a three-game western road trip last month, Penguins' coach Ivan Hlinka threw together a most unlikely forward line in rookie center Milan Kraft, veteran left wing Rene Corbet and disappointing right wing Aleksey Morozov. Just a few weeks earlier, Corbet had been scratched for the season opener while Kraft and Morozov had spent the entire game on the bench. The three former first-round draft choices responded in a highly unlikely manner, too, producing a goal in five of the next six games and almost immediately exhibiting the kind of chemistry that takes most units weeks to develop. "We're playing like we played all of last year together," Kraft said in the midst of a seven-game run during which he earned points in six games and began to display at the National Hockey League level the skills that prompted Pittsburgh to draft him 23rd overall in 1998. "I feel good here now, especially when we score goals. It's a nice feeling." It's doubtful he felt any better about it than Corbet and Morozov, whose futures with the Penguins were much more uncertain when the season started.

NHL Trade Rumors - Now That I Am Thinking About The Playoffs Jonathane writes Now that I am thinking about it, some hockey trades are about it,I wonder how Pierre Lacroix is feeling about trading rene corbet, Wade Belak http://www.wowhockey.com/article2039.html
Extractions: While we are thinking about it, I wonder how Pierre Lacroix is feeling about trading Rene Corbet, Wade Belak, Robyn Regehr and a second round pick that turned into Jarret Stoll for Theo Fluery and Chris Dingman? Anyone think Colorado would have lost to San Jose with Robyn Regehr playing on the blue line. Speaking of which, I wonder how Lacroix is feeling about the fact that Vincent Damphousse would have been a Colorado Avalanche last season had Lacroix added another year to his contract. Instead, Lacroix paid six million for a different Shark, Teemu Selanne. Why is it that everyone keeps telling us how smart Lacroix is? He sure did not show it this season. Maybe he is tired of the Avs and simply wants to manage Celine Dion.
