Extractions: Number: 24 Born: Flin Flon, Man., 3/11/1966 Position: Defenseman Ken Baumgartner was the Buffalo Sabres 12th choice, 245th overall in the 1985 Entry Draft. After 3 years with the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League, where he contributed to a Memorial Cup Championship in 1985 under former Islander coach Terry Simpson, "Bomber" was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. He played there for 2 and a half years before he was traded along with Hubie McDonough to the New York Islanders in exchange for Mikko Makela on November 29, 1989. Following the acquisition the Islanders put together a 23-6-3 streak, which took the club all the way to first place in the division. From 1989-92 Ken provided the Isles with toughness and sound defensive play. In 1990-91 he would lead the Islanders in PIM's with 282. It was during this time that he picked up the nickname "Bomber" and recorded 2 songs with the group Suicidal Tendencies. The proceeds went towards the Leukemia Society. Eventually, the Isles saw a need to upgrade offensively and Baumgartner was sent to the Toronto Maple Leafs with Dave McLlwain for Daniel Marois and Claude Loiselle on March 10, 1992.
Extractions: C hris Neil wasn't a tough guy in the OHL. He crashed and banged and went after loose pucks. Then they told him that he'd have to fight his way onto the Senators' roster. So, he listened and fought all comers in the "I." Now he's battling everyone in the Big Tent and is ranked fifth in Fighting Majors.. . .

Even if you are able to defy the odds and make it to the NHL, which I hope is the case, it is often a short career. The skills that you develop at school will be instrumental to your successes both away from the arena and after you stop playing."
