Extractions: Wallace Leads Men's Basketball Past Columbia, 75-52 Junior center scores 24, adds nine rebounds, five assists, four steals and four blocks; Tigers 9-1 in Ivy League play Feb. 27, 2004 Box Score Judson Wallace accomplished something Friday night at Jadwin Gym that no Princeton player had accomplished in 27 seasons. Thanks to that effort and host of others, the Tigers also moved one step closer to an Ivy League title with their biggest victory of the league season. Wallace scored 24 points, becoming the first Princeton player since Frank Sowinski in 1976-77 to score 20 or more points in five games in a row, and added nine rebounds, five assists, four blocks and four steals as the Tigers used a strong second half and 72% shooting from the field to defeat Columbia, 75-52, before 3,630 at Jadwin Gym. Princeton (16-7, 9-1) just missed setting a program record for field-goal percentage in a game (28 for 39, 71.8%) and had 22 assists on its 28 baskets, but it was the all-around play of Wallace that again led the Tigers to their fifth-straight win.
A Year In Kansas: The John Brown Jayhawk Missouri students and fans yell obscenities at Kansas men s basketball players. Let s mute that, said wallace, who will retire in August. john Ferraro, a http://www.a-year-in-kansas.com/archive/2004/01/07/johnBrownHawk
Extractions: @import "/styles.css"; This picture requires extensive explanation. John Brown is a locally celebrated historical figure. He was an abolitionist (a person opposed to slavery) in the 19th century whos eventual hanging is often cited as an important event in the lead up to the civial war. A more detailed biography can be found on the excellent Wikipedia. The Jayhawk is a non-existent bird, and the logo of the University of Kansas, which is itself based in Lawrence. It's hard to move three feet in this town without seeing one of these, and pretty much all of the sports teams at the University call themselves the Jayhawks. The legend of the Kansas Jayhawk on KU 's site has a more detailed explanation - the history of the term is strongly linked to the anti-slave movement and the civil war. In the summer of 2003, the Lawrence Visitors Bureau put together a bizzare tourist attraction around lawrence consisting of 30 fiberglass Jayhawks scattered around the town, each sponsored by a local business. Half a year later they're slowly being removed and auctioned off for charity, but the Jayhawks on Parade website gives a good overview of the exhibition.
