Extractions: Sophomore guard Bernard Robinson Jr., Michigan's second-leading scorer last season, has been charged with misdemeanor sexual assault, police said. Robinson, of Washington D.C., is accused of fondling another student in a residence hall stairwell on April 20. The female student called campus police and reported that Robinson grabbed her inappropriately several times, according to police reports. The woman, who said she didn't know Robinson, broke free and called for help, police said. Robinson was arrested later that morning and was released pending formal charges. If he's convicted of the charges, Robinson could face up to two years in prison and a $500 fine for each count. Robinson's attorney, Nicholas Roumel, said his client denies the allegations. Michigan junior forward Bernard Robinson Jr. was sentenced Tuesday to one year of probation and other penalties for two misdemeanor assault charges, but will most likely remain on the basketball team. Robinson, 22, pleaded guilty to the two charges for touching a female student in April 2002. On Tuesday, he told the judge he was sorry for what he did. Beyond the probation, Wayne County Circuit Judge Donald Shelton fined Robinson $850 and ordered him to write a letter of apology to the victim. Robinson also has to make a one-time presentation to Michigan athletes about the seriousness of his offense, take random drug and alcohol testing for one year and undergo a sexual offender evaluation. The judge also banned Robinson from alcohol for a year and said he can't go into any establishments that primarily serve alcohol. If Robinson violates any of the probation provisions, Shelton advised the player would be put in jail for 93 days.

Extractions: 'bout Willis? We all come to college chasing a dream. Some of us don't know exactly what that dream is when we get here, yet it's something powerful enough, enticing enough, to get us to leave home, forsake the cozy confines of high school and hometown for the sprawling, intimidating world-unto-itself of Ann Arbor. Then there are those who know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the dream they are pursuing. They have a confidence of purpose that the rest don't possess, for they can see that light at the end of the tunnel, that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Maurice Taylor was one of those lucky souls. He arrived here in 1994, knowing exactly what he wanted to do with his life. He wanted to play professional basketball, to run the court with the best in the world. And now, three years later, he's in a position to realize that dream, to make a reality out of the visions that have danced in his head for as long as he can remember. There are, of course, those who will criticize Taylor's decision to forego his senior year at Michigan and declare himself eligible for the NBA draft in June. Some will say that he's not ready, that he needs to stay in school, finish his education, give himself something to fall back on after he leaves the court for the final time.
