By intuition we mean sudden insight. This, however, is a very mysterious process, about which we have only the most rudimentary understanding. SCIENTIFIC METHOD This method uses reasoning and intuition, but relies on objective assessment. By rationalism and intuition a scientist forms a hypothesis about some fact, or some reality. An experiment is then designed, resulting in measurements. The data from the experiment is analyzed, the hypothesis is either supported or rejected.

Prior to coming to the Hornets full-time, Bower was an advance scout from 1995 to 1997 for the team, watching over 100 games a year. Bower spent three years as an assistant coach at Penn State University from 1983-1986 and then moved to Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. First as an assistant coach from 1986 through 1990, Bower was then promoted to Associate Head Coach, where he held that position for five years. During his stay with Marist, the Red Foxes made an NCAA Tournament appearance in 1987 after winning the Northeast Conference. Bower also coached the second overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft, and former Indiana Pacers starting center, Rik Smits for two years.
