Extractions: Red Sox Patriots Celtics Bruins ... Celtics BLAZERS 105, CELTICS 98 By Shira Springer, Globe Staff, 4/1/2004 Damon Stoudamire stepped out of bounds in front of the Celtics' bench with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter. Boston coach John Carroll saw the transgression. Officials Dan Crawford, Gary Benson, and Rodney Mott did not. No call. ADVERTISEMENT As a result, Carroll vented a night full of frustrations, receiving his second technical and the first ejection of his NBA coaching career. He headed to the locker room with 20 seconds remaining. The last ejection Carroll earned came "sometime in the mid-'90s" while coaching Duquesne. "This one was more costly," said Carroll, who now owes the league $1,000. But it was what happened inside, not outside or out of bounds, that stymied the Celtics. Scoring easily inside to shoot 61 percent, Portland pulled away from Boston in the second half, recording a 105-98 win. Still, the Celtics (34-41) held on to eighth place in the Eastern Conference with a 1 1/2-game lead over the idle Cavaliers. The absence of interior defense by the Celtics proved most costly and mitigated the effect of 22 turnovers by the Trail Blazers. Portland outscored Boston, 64-34, in the paint with Darius Miles, Zach Randolph, and Theo Ratliff responsible for most of the damage. Of the 45 Portland field goals, 28 were dunks, layups, or tip-ins.
Extractions: Red Sox Patriots Celtics Bruins ... Celtics BLAZERS 105, CELTICS 84 By Shira Springer, Globe Staff, 2/22/2004 PORTLAND, Ore. Paul Pierce punctuated his answers to postgame questions with short bursts of laughter, even though there was nothing funny about the Celtics' 105-84 loss to the Trail Blazers last night. It was the kind of laughter that comes when you don't know what to say. It was the kind of laughter that comes when you want to say some things you shouldn't. ADVERTISEMENT When asked about Portland's opening 22-0 run, Pierce said, "Well, when you don't have no continuity and you don't have no organization and you go out there like it's a pickup game, that's what's going to happen. [There were] 12 individuals. "You'd like to believe you'd get back into the game. But we don't have no continuity on defense. Guys don't know what they're doing. We're just not playing smart. You just don't give yourself a chance. We went away from all the things we learned in training camp, regardless of the coaching change and everything. We went away from everything that we learned, every concept that we've done. We're just throwing it out the window. "Things changed. Personnel's changed. Coaching's changed. New concepts. It's hard to do when you've got a young team, eight or nine different players, and you try to change things in midseason. It's difficult. I mean, you guys are watching the same thing I see."

During his time at the Wizards, they became the most popular road draw and made $30 million, selling out every game. Michael Jordan, while playing for the Chicago Bulls in the 90s, led them to six NBA championship titles. 5-8-03. Bob Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television, has asked basketball legend, Michael Jordan to join his Charlotte expansion franchise. The two friends met at a Chicago Bulls game twelve years ago. According to Johnson, who purchased the yet-to-be-named team for $300 million, absolutely I want him to be involved. He can play any role he wants to play, frankly. Jordan is being shopped around by his representatives to other franchises, including the Chicago Bulls, whom he played for 13 years and the Atlanta Hawks, who are for sale.

Extractions: BASKETBALL RATINGS PREVIEW By Glenn Guzzo Every card set Strat-O-Matic produces gives us special insights into the season it re-produces. The 2002-03 NBA season card set is no exception. While Strat-O-Matics card-making elves were still hard at work as this was being written, certain things can now be told. WALK DONT RUN Fewer than half the teams have a player with a double-digit dazzler rating (either in Normal play, or on the Fast break). Detroit , the Lakers and Washington have no dazzlers at all. Boston and Sacramento have no fast-break dazzlers. On San Antonio , only Speedy Claxton , who seldom dazzles (hes an extra player and his rating is 2), dazzles at all on the break. Only he and Tim Duncan (both 1s) can throw a dazzler for the Spurs in normal play. Many teams have only one man who can throw dazzlers. And on some of those teams the guy is either not the regular point guard (Orlando Tracy McGrady ), an extra player ( Miami Anthony Carter ), a part-time player ( Denver Junior Harrington ), an often-injured player (
