Extractions: Soul of the Game Review #2 A must for all Basketball Players... 'Soul of the Game' is strictly a bestseller in my book. Thebook tells of where the most famous players came from: The streetcourts. This book is an inspiration to basketball players everywhere, including the pros. This a must read and should be honored as thebest in photography. Soul of the Game Review #3 If you have that true love for the game of basketball and where it started than buy this book. It may not have a lot of writing, but it shows the writing in the biographical summaries of the greats the "Goat", "Destroyer", "Tiny", etc. Even know I didn't see any of the greats I still read about them. Much love to the "Goat" who stood before them all, who past away last year. Watch the movie "Rebound"!
Extractions: The Charge Where STREETBALL Was Born! The Case In 1946, a New York City employee had a simple dream: to give inner city kids a chance to play their favorite game (basketball) all year long while simultaneously keeping them away from drugs and crime. He devised a tournament at the Harlem park he worked at to provide that positive alternative to street life. Today, the Entertainer's Basketball Classic is a Big Apple tradition, drawing the best amateur as well as professional athletes from around the country to play in its nine-week expression of charisma, competitiveness, and community, all in the heart of uptown at 113th Street. Spotlighted in films like Above the Rim and Rebound: The Legend of Earl "The Goat" Manigault
Extractions: In this history of basketball, Derek Gentile sets out to show not so much its chronological growth, but the game's stylistic evolution. The large book is handsomely laid out and outfitted in a hard cover with a texture just like a basketball: grainy, raised dots and black, elliptical lines. The book is informative and entertaining, full of splashy color action photos and funky factoids. Page numbers at the bottom of the page are set in small, basketball-colored circles, reinforcing the hoops theme throughout the book. "Smooth Moves" is divided into five parts: The Shots, Ballhandling Moves, Defensive Moves, Offensive Moves, and The Rest Of The Moves, a section comprised of interesting lists such as The Trash Talking Moves and Ten Things We Couldn't Leave Out. There are 33 chapters, some with humorous, insightful approaches, such as chapter 20 of Part 4, The Garbage Men's Moves: The Guys Who Do All the Dirty Work. A typical chapter lead page has a striking picture, text on the origin of the basketball move, the all-time best practitioners of the move and an explanation of the move's technique, sometimes with an illustration.

Don Cheadle does an excellent job portraying "The Goat" and the supporting cast were excellent. It is the best basketball movie I have ever seen because it is the greatest basketball story ever told! He got Game, Above the Rim were entertaining, however this movie is real as it is based on the facts of a man's life. The movie shows the good and bad times, and does not make a commercial, happy ending to please the viewers. Most movies don't follow a story truthfully, usually changing certain parts to please the audience - not this one!! "The Goat" This movie realy, it showed life as earl manigault very well. It explained life in Harlem, and what it was like as a boy living their. It showed an epic battle between the basketball star and drugs. I rate it a 5 star movie because i am a real true basketball player and fan. This movie realy inspired me to work hard and not get caught up in that drug messpeace none better than the GOAT THis is easily one of the best movies I have ever seen. THis movie is tight. If you like basketball you better watch this movie cause' there are none better. I've also found some other awesome GOAT books which you should pick up. Try gettin City Game. Asphalt Gods, and Double Dunk which is the best one of all. Don't pass this up, this movie is the BEST.

Earl Manigault's Web Now read the original autobiography of earl manigault, the legendarybasketball player from the playgrounds of New York City s Harlem. http://goat82.interfree.it/Double Dunk.htm
Extractions: In Double Dunk , published in 1980 by Holloway House and reprinted by Beckham House in 1993, Barry Beckham uses the second person "you" point of view to chronicle the action-packed, inspiring exploits of Manigault, inventor of the patented double dunk shot. Many considered him the best of his timea great leaper with acrobatic, unstoppable moves. He set a New York City junior high school record by scoring 52 points in one game. But like many talented brothers from the mean streets, bad breaks and lack of discipline sent him stumbling into a world of heroin addiction and petty crimes for three years. So he didn't make it to the pros. Still, the "Goat" was able to rebuild his life, kicking the habit through "cold turkey" in a prison cell. He formed his own summer Goat Tournament for youngsters, and can be found today on the streetsthis time coaching and advising the promising stars of tomorrow.
