Basketball DIVISION 2 By Emily Werchadlo, Globe Correspondent, 12/19/2003 The Division 2 championship may come down the ability of the coaches to replace stars while turning younger players into immediate contibutors. ADVERTISEMENT The division's best teams all lost significant talent to graduation, so it should be an exciting year as the title is up for grabs. Arlington Catholic is an early favorite, returning all but one starter. The Cougars finished 20-3 and captured the No. 6 seed in the Division 2 North playoffs. AC went to the semifinals, where it lost in overtime to a more experienced Salem team, 69-65. Coach Dave Brady said his speedy team covers the floor well and plays good defense. Their weakness is down low. "We lost our center, so we need to extend the floor to make up for our lack of size," said Brady. "We need to create a lot of turnovers." Brady is looking to tricaptains Alex Riley, Sarah Doherty, and Heather Marino (who averaged 17.6 points last year as the third-leading scorer in the tough Catholic Central League) to step up. However, Brady said that there is no lack of drive or confidence on the team. "I think the only goal our team has [is to win the championship]," he said. "They practice like a championship team."

He holds the professional record for playing the most games in a row (1,192 going into the 2001-02 season), and does it with a fervor that awes younger players. Imagine, then, if they knew that Green actually increases his intensity when the season ends. He may leave his heart on the basketball floor, figuratively speaking, but when the games are over each season, his passion really kicks in. Green goes to work as a unique kind of evangelist, telling the world about living right in the power of Jesus Christ. In the month after his 2000-01 basketball season was finished for the Miami Heat, Green did so many television interviews in which Christian living was the theme, he calculated that they reached about 100 million households. He reached thousands more through live speaking engagements, youth camps, a book he wrote titled "Victory," and a school curriculum developed and distributed by his nonprofit A.C. Green Youth Foundation. "In everything I do, I want to honor God and I want to exalt Him," Green says. "But I really want to expose His kingdom more than anything. It's not about A.C. It's not about anything that I can do. What I can do is try to please Him."
