Now, where are the Wizards? Both parties lose in all of this. Michael gets tainted, and the Wizards lose their No. 1 draw. During his time at the Wizards, they became the most popular road draw and made $30 million, selling out every game. Michael Jordan, while playing for the Chicago Bulls in the 90s, led them to six NBA championship titles. 5-8-03. Bob Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television, has asked basketball legend, Michael Jordan to join his Charlotte expansion franchise. The two friends met at a Chicago Bulls game twelve years ago. According to Johnson, who purchased the yet-to-be-named team for $300 million, absolutely I want him to be involved. He can play any role he wants to play, frankly. Jordan is being shopped around by his representatives to other franchises, including the Chicago Bulls, whom he played for 13 years and the Atlanta Hawks, who are for sale.

Extractions: Comments "You cant lose your starting two highest-scoring players and replace them with a back-up point guard and three stiffs and expect to field a competitive team." I assume you're talking about Speedy Claxton, because Nick Van Exel is a legitimate starting point guard. Let's be realistic, as a point guard, Van Exel is probably as good or better than Arenas. Granted Van Exel doesn't have the up side that Areanas has, but Van Exel is just as good if not a better scorer than Van Exel and is a better distributor as well. The reality is that this is probably the rarity that is the trade that hurts both teams. I think relatively that the Warriors actually did better than Dallas. They got rid of Fortson (and his albatross contract), Chris Mills (a stiff) and Antawn Jamison's contract (which was more money than his performance ever warranted or ever will). In return they got a good PG and some stiffs who don't make that much money back. While it may not help either team, the Warriors are hurt less by this trade than Dallas. What's New Expansion draft means Mavs have strategic decisions ahead 01:18 AM CDT on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News The Mavericks' quick dismissal from the playoffs has afforded them ample opportunity to start preparing for what figures to be a hectic June and July. Potential trades and free-agent signings (and re-signings, in Steve Nash's case) will be critical. But one of their first orders of business is to determine which players to expose in the expansion draft that will help fill the new Charlotte Bobcats' roster. It may not be as easy as it sounds. The Mavericks and every other NBA team not in the Finals have to turn in their list of eight protected players by June 12, 10 days before the expansion draft. Teams in the Finals have until two days after their series is over. There are six players who likely will be off-limits to the Bobcats, president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson says: Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley, Antawn Jamison, Antoine Walker, Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels.

Extractions: By Curtis Eichelberger, Scripps Howard News Service Danny Fortson just can't seem to help himself. With his chiseled, 6-foot-7, 260-pound frame, the Denver Nuggets' rookie power forward from the University of Cincinnati does whatever is required to get position under the basket. Sometimes that includes throwing elbows, shoving defenders and throwing something strangely reminiscent of a leg whip - all of which result in foul calls. If Fortson can stay in the games long enough, he might just be the Nuggets' leading scorer, a possibility that leaves coach Bill Hanzlik chuckling. ''Yeah, well like my dad used to say, "If the dog would have caught the rabbit, you'd've had some lunch.' '' OK, so maybe Fortson isn't likely to get over the habit of fouling for quite a while. Some referees already seem to have labeled him a pet project, and taken it upon themselves to whistle him for every minor indiscretion. So goes life for an NBA rookie. But imagine what Fortson might become once he gets his game under control. Fortson has been scoring in double figures during the preseason and has been averaging about seven rebounds.

Extractions: By Todd Jones, Post staff reporter University of Cincinnati basketball coach Bob Huggins predicts a 12- or 13-year NBA career for Danny Fortson because of the forward's blend of skills, work ethic and relentless desire. ''He's going to be extremely successful,'' Huggins said. ''At a time when people question a lot of things about athletes, you don't have to question anything about him.'' But NBA scouts do have some questions about Fortson as he prepares for the league's draft in June after telling The Post on Monday that he's not returning for his senior season at UC next year. ''I like him, and I think he's going to be a good player,'' said Jerry Reynolds, director of player personnel for the Sacramento Kings. ''I don't know if he's going to be a star.'' Sam Schuler, director of player personnel for the San Antonio Spurs, pronounced ''no glaring weaknesses'' in Fortson's game but said it's too early to declare him an impact player in the NBA. ''He's right on the bubble in that regard,'' Schuler said. ''If he tries to play in the NBA with just the skills he has now, then maybe he's just a guy on the roster. But if he improves those skills then he's a player who is going to have an impact.'' Fortson, a first-team all-America, is a certain first-round draft pick. But scouts say how high he's selected is uncertain even though he finished as the No. 2 scorer in UC history behind Oscar Robertson with 1,881 career points.
