Extractions: Mayo Game 2004 B-Squad News From Coach Marty: The B squad Basketball team has come a long way this year and developed markedly through the season. After a strong performance on Tuesday to defeat the Austin Packers 59-48, the team is now at 8-12 on the season. This bunch is working hard to finish the season very strong and have shown some of their best in the last two outings. When they decide for themselves to compete at the top of their potential, they are a devastating team. They put together a great second half performance to overcome a 20-22 half time deficit and defeat the packers on Tuesday, outscoring the Packer 22-13 in the final period. Previous Comments: On Friday we traveled to Mankato East and came out with a solid performance on the night. We opened up with a 10-6 lead after 1 period behind some good defense, rebounding and smart shot selection. AT the half we were ahead 30-21, and following a rush by East had our lead cut to one at the 3 rd break, 42-41. We did work on some press break by all 15 players, allowing them to each work in a group against some good pressure by the Cougars, and going away at the end we gave ourselves a chance to win, but wound up falling 53-54. We continue to strive to improve ourselves as a team, and so we look toward Austin on Tuesday night.

Extractions: The North Charleston Lowgators finished the 2002-03 regular season in second place with a 26-24 record. The team featured three NBA call-ups and two former College of Charleston stars. The Lowgators up-tempo style of basketball was not only exciting to watch, but highly effective. The Lowgators led the league in scoring, averaging 88.8 points per game. They were also first in field goals, field goal attempts and steals. The season was filled with spectacular dunks by Corey Benjamin and Damone Brown, great block shots from Karim Shabazz, clutch three-pointers stroked by Sedric Webber and unbelievable drives to the basket by Tierre Brown. 2002-03 In Review After losing in the NBDL Finals in their inaugural season, the Lowgators entered the 2002-03 campaign with a new head coach and only one returning player. Doug Marty, promoted after one year as an assistant to Alex English, brought an up-tempo, transition style of basketball to the Lowgators. With Sedric Webber the only holdover from the previous season, Marty filled his roster with versatile athletic bodies ready and willing to run the floor. Three of which, had spent time in the NBA and were itching to get back. All three did.
