Now, where are the Wizards? Both parties lose in all of this. Michael gets tainted, and the Wizards lose their No. 1 draw. During his time at the Wizards, they became the most popular road draw and made $30 million, selling out every game. Michael Jordan, while playing for the Chicago Bulls in the 90s, led them to six NBA championship titles. 5-8-03. Bob Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television, has asked basketball legend, Michael Jordan to join his Charlotte expansion franchise. The two friends met at a Chicago Bulls game twelve years ago. According to Johnson, who purchased the yet-to-be-named team for $300 million, absolutely I want him to be involved. He can play any role he wants to play, frankly. Jordan is being shopped around by his representatives to other franchises, including the Chicago Bulls, whom he played for 13 years and the Atlanta Hawks, who are for sale.

Extractions: The trading deadline is one of my favorite days of the year. Not only does the ceaseless barrage of infantile rumors miraculously come to an immediate screeching halt, but there's even a couple deals that actually happen ! This year, in addition the Jalen Rose trade I wrote about Wednesday , there were three other deals. I'll discuss them in reverse order of importance: First up is the Marc Jackson trade . The Warriors signed Marc Jackson to a 6-year, $24 million contract this offseason, saying that they didn't want to just give away a valuable asset. Ironically, the Warriors spent the entire season destroying his market value and ended up giving him away anyway. The deal sends him to Minnesota in return for Dean Garrett, who was a useful player five years ago but now takes over Jackson's spot as third-string center. Garrett's contract runs out at year end, so all the Warriors have to show for their season long soap opera with Jackson is a 2nd round pick in 2007. Nice work. Meanwhile, the T-Wolves continue their trend under GM Kevin McHale of taking advantage of available talent. They've made several astute and inexpensive free agent signings (Chauncey Billups, Gary Trent, Felipe Lopez), and this is the second time they got a useful player in a trade for practically nothing (the other was the trade of Doug West for Anthony Peeler; I'm sure all you Griz fans out there have fond memories of that one). Jackson will be a better backup center than Loren Woods, and his jump-shooting style seems to fit in with how the Wolves do things. Jackson doesn't add much in terms of interior muscle, and that's an area where Minnesota could use some help, but I still really like this deal from their perspective.

Extractions: Denver Post Sports Columnist Nov. 26, 2000 Amid the celebratory noise of a happy Nuggets victory, guard Tariq Abdul-Wahad was nowhere to be found. He slipped silently from the Denver locker room and left without a smile into the night. Alone again. Abdul-Wahad is the Nuggets' loner. You'll find him reading alone on the team plane. Wandering alone through the quiet beauty of an art gallery, while teammates chase the loudest, sexiest night spots on the road. Alone on the team bench, where Abdul-Wahad sits for awkwardly long stretches each game, despite the fact the Nuggets recently signed him to a ridiculously excessive seven-year, $43.3 million contract that now mocks his playing ability and the team's basketball expertise. What exactly is Abdul-Wahad doing here? In truth, he doesn't really know. Worse, neither do the Nuggets. Teammates don't reach out to Abdul-Wahad. And, quite frankly, he doesn't try to fit in with them. Players envy his salary, which ranks third on the team behind stars Antonio McDyess and Nick Van Exel, and don't much respect a player who struggles to average barely six points and 20 minutes of court time per game. A native of France who adopted the Muslim faith, Abdul-Wahad is a stranger walking through the strange NBA land, living this season in what often seems like solitary confinement. There's no nice way to say it: This has become an uneasy situation for a Denver team already sorely lacking in passion and chemistry.
