Extractions: Ingrid.Ortega@mail.house.gov During my conversation with Igor he said he always thinks of Puerto Rico when hes playing baseball. He called me because he knows that I am one of his most devoted fans. Igor has many fans. Hes a very dedicated baseball player and he has been consistently a great player. Today is a great day for him and for those of us who love baseball and who are Puerto Ricans, Serrano said.
Extractions: Ingrid.Ortega@mail.house.gov First, Juan deserves this award. Its a fact that he is one of the best baseball players of this generation. I love the way he goes after a low outside pitch and like no one else can hit it into the stands. When Juan hits the ball he brings excited fans to their feet. The ball leaves his bat in a hurry and travels quickly wherever it may go. The Texas Rangers outfielder convincingly captured the same award in 1996. Then, Juan hit 47 home runs and drove in 144 runs. This year, Juan drove in 157 runs, the highest total in the American League since 1948. He also had 45 home runs, a league-high 50 doubles, and a .318 batting average. Mark McGwire recently said that Juan doesnt get the recognition that he deserves. I agree. Maybe it's because he doesnt play in a national media market or because he hasnt, like McGwire, hit 70 home runs yet. Or maybe some of the media havent noticed yet. One thing I know for sure, he is a very dedicated player and perhaps the most consistent hitter of this decade. The second reason to be proud is because Juan is Puerto Rican. He, who was born 29 years ago in Vega Baja, is an example to others of how persistence is the key to achieving goals.
