The Atlantic League Of Professional Baseball - Alumni Raines, Jose Lima, Rickey Henderson, Pete Incaviglia, Kim Batiste, carlos baerga,Jim Leyritz in the Atlantic League to stay involved in baseball, while others http://www.atlanticleague.com/alumni.html
Extractions: Post-Season Awards ... Home GOING BACK TO THE SHOW Since its inception in 1998, the Atlantic League has been home to professional ball players both in the early stages of their careers as well as the latter stages. Quiet simply playing in the Atlantic League means different things to different players. The league has seen such Major League players as Jose Canseco, Ruben Sierra, Tim Raines, Jose Lima, Rickey Henderson, Pete Incaviglia, Kim Batiste, Carlos Baerga, Jim Leyritz, Jaime Navarro, Mariano Duncan, Jose Offerman and countless others. Some of these players were looking for another Major League chance and played in the Atlantic League to stay involved in baseball, while others simply wanted to remain in the game as long as they possibly could. In its six years of existence, the Atlantic League has served as the home for over 260 players who have Major League experience under their belt, 73 in the 2003 season. Out of the 117 players that were sold to Major League Clubs, nearly half (44 percent) were pitchers. This statistic alone is enough to draw in young pitchers and players looking to play baseball for a Major League team. Another 10 percent were catchers, leaving the remaining 36 percent as position players. Nearly one whole team each season have had their contracts sold to a Major League club.

Extractions: Tell Scott your opinion! Just a thought, but has anybody in Boston offered to purchase Manny Ramirez a pair of shoes lately? Maybe all it would have taken to keep Manny in the lineup, the Red Sox happy and the entire Affair d'Manny from boiling over like a pot of lobsters would have been a simple trip to a local cobbler. At the very least, it might have made the ill-fated public meeting Saturday night between an allegedly ill Ramirez and a healthy Enrique Wilson of the New York Yankees more understandable. Shea Hillenbrand, now with Arizona, is one of many young players who Manny Ramirez took under his wing. (Getty Images) See, theirs is a very soleful, er, soulful relationship that was strengthened by shoes ... and clothes, and shopping, and lunch. That much became clear in late April, when Wilson and I discussed his class-act treatment of Erick Almonte, the kid shortstop who had just been called up to replace an injured Derek Jeter. With one of the most desirable jobs in the country shortstop of the New York Yankees suddenly open, manager Joe Torre opted to keep Wilson in a utility role and slide Almonte into the lineup. Wilson responded not by pouting and ripping but by taking the kid to lunch and shopping on Almonte's first day in the majors, in Toronto. Wilson sprung for a pair of shoes for Almonte. When I asked him about it, Wilson said he always behaves that way with rookies because of the kindness once showed him by a certain veteran in Cleveland.
