Extractions: The Associated Press Danys Baez has dealt with more difficult adjustments than moving from the bullpen to the Cleveland Indians' starting rotation. Baez defected from Cuba in 1999 and signed a $14.5 million, four-year contract with the Indians that November. After adjusting to his new country, Baez excelled as a rookie last year, going 5-3 with a 2.50 ERA in 43 relief appearances. Baez has some big on-the-field dreams, too. Cleveland manager Charlie Manuel believes Baez's dream is not far-fetched. The 24-year-old right-hander became one of the best relievers in the American League after the All-Star break, relying on a 95- to 97-mph fastball and an 88- to 91-mph split-finger. DODGERS: Right-hander Andy Ashby threw batting practice for the first time this spring, a sign he is progressing in his recovery from a torn flexor muscle in his pitching elbow. The 34-year-old threw 40 pitches Sunday, mixing fastballs, curves and sinkers. Though his control was not as sharp as he would have liked, the probable No. 2 starter for the Los Angeles Dodgers said he felt fine and was pleased with his rehabilitation.
Extractions: Monday Major League Baseball released the list of the top vote-getters for this years All-Star Game. I was shocked to see only Paul Lo Duca on the list. I know Dodger fans dislike stuffing the All-Star ballot box. However, our players need our support. The Los Angeles Dodgers have enough fans to get a Dodger elected to start the All-Star Game. After all, in 1974, Steve Garveys name was not on the All-Star ballot, but he was elected to be an All-Star. Since Mike Piazza was traded in 1998, the Dodgers have not had a player start a Mid-Summer Classic. Unlike the past few years, the Dodgers have had an outstanding first half of the season. Many Dodgers are deserving to go to the All-Star Game held in Milwaukee Every year many deserving players are overlooked and not voted or chosen to go to the All-Star Game. Though I am a baseball fan, I often dont watch the game because I get depressed when I see players overlooked. To me, the All-Star Game has become a popularity contest by the fans and the managers. If some deserving Dodgers can be named or selected to the All-Star team, I will watch the game to support the Dodgers.

And no, I hadn't heard that the Mets have dumped Cover Girl to sign with Revlon, but John Rocker may have heard different. But on to the festivities. Naturally, we start with the Braves. Atlanta Braves Back: 1B Andres Galarraga In: 1B Wally Joyner, 2B Quilvio Veras, OF Reggie Sanders Out: OW Jane Fonda, C Greg Myers, 1B Ryan Klesko, 2B Bret Boone, SS Jose Hernandez, OF Gerald Williams, P Russ Springer While that's a lot of activity on the out side, nobody on the list was crucial to the Braves success, except maybe outgoing Owner's Wife Jane Fonda. The only question is whether she's eligible for free agency or just arbitration. It's a shame Ted didn't trade Jane for Cameron Diaz before her contract ran out. Overall, I'm not really sure whether she should aim for arbitration or free agency. In the field, things aren't so clear cut. The Braves seem to be stockpiling aging, questionable first basemen, much as they did at the end of the McGriff years. The Klesko for Joyner trade is problematic, as Joyner's continued effectiveness is in some doubt. As a backup to the returning Galarraga, it may work out, though. If neither of those pan out, stalwart journeyman Brian Hunter is ready to fill in (that would be the Brian Hunter that knows which end of the bat to hold.)
