Extractions: Receiver Darrin Charles is still catching passes for the Badgers, while former Oshkosh North High School teammate Bob Docherty moved on to UW-Oshkosh to continue his college football career (Michelle Stocker photo). Bob Docherty could hardly contain himself. It was last Saturday night and Docherty was in and out of his seat, hooting and hollering and slapping five with family members. You may have thought Docherty put the Badgers in his rear-view mirror when he abruptly left the team during training camp in mid-August, packed up his car and headed home to Oshkosh. Not quite. Docherty still keeps a close eye on a program made up of former teammates he built strong friendships with during his two-plus years in Madison.
Extractions: by Ryan Sherwin 14 touchdowns, 75 games played, and 55 games started running back Charles Way was a hero for many of the Big Blue faithful who donned his jersey every Sunday. Way was a hero for many who watched New York Giants games for the past five years. A hard nosed running back who pounded it up the field, Way led the Giants to victory on numerous occasions. A critical member of the team, Way brought many intangibles to the table, such as hard work and leadership qualities. Today, Way is a hero, but for Giants players. As Players' Program Coordinator, Way has tackled a new playing field, one on which he helps Giant players run¹ their financial lives and plan their future careers. Giants' management recognized a need for someone like Way to come in and give team members a player's perspective on planning for the future. Way had what it took to be a mentor for other players: he'd experienced the ups and downs of life in the NFL, made a good salary, and he also had the smarts. He'd been voted to the Academic All-ACC first team selection in his junior year at the University of Virginia. He always had one eye on his future. As a former player, Way knows what kinds of problems players confront. "Some players don't prepare financially for life after football, and that can get them into major problems," he told me during an interview at Giants Stadium. "Many players have a tendency to believe that they will have a couple more years to save money, so they spend what they have, never thinking that they could get injured at any time, and then what!" he added. It is Way's job to help players recognize that life after football isn't so easy, and players should be saving money yearly to help them build their future. Way also mentioned that all new players must attend a Rookie Symposium in which they are taught about life in the NFL, how to deal with money, how to handle the press, and other issues that revolve around their football fame. The symposium kicks off lots for the players to think about, and Way keeps the ball running.

Extractions: REBELS 48 The increasingly congested traffic on Interstate 35 is something to avoid, especially on Fridays. So, for our trek to Seguin, I plotted a course that was guaranteed to take us through no town larger than Zorn, or maybe Geronimo. We were successful, and although I'll never know exactly what kind of a slow rolling parking lot we missed on the highway, I was satisfied that we had chosen well. The scenery alone was worth it. Seguin High School's Matador Field is right on State Highway 123, south of I-10. A side street whisked us right into the parking lot, where one of Seguin's finest personally directed us to a convenient parking space not far from an entrance/exit to the lot. From there it was a thirty yard stroll to the ticket window and on into the visitors' side of the ample stadium. Compare and contrast to Austin's House Park.

Extractions: John Charles Page 1 1. I never had the pleasure of seeing him play but even my father (who is not really interested in football) said he was one of the greatest player he had ever seen. It was fascinating reading his life story in last year's publication, which also helped raised money for Gol charity. It's a shame that although he was such a legend in Italy he didn't command the same status here in Wales and certainly not in the UK. In today's era where the media build up average players to be world beaters his impact on the game and the spirit in which he played doesn't make half these players fit to play the same game. With the Royal family handing out honours and knighthoods left, right and centre to certain people in British sport, somebody should take a long hard look at themselves and ask why did John Charles not die Sir John Charles? Let's hope he was at least able to enjoy watching Wales hammer Scotland 4-0 on Wednesday night. - Hedd Adams-Lewis 2. Met him once after the Germany game, and although he was being continually asked for autographs was very charming and obliged everyone. Will be sadly missed. -
