When a Parrish print was placed in a department store window, crowds gathered to admire it. Hotels hung his dreamscapes in their lobbies. Housewives bought his calendars, viewed them for a year, then cut off the dates and framed the pictures. His 1922 painting Daybreak became a decorating sensation and pop icon of the 1920s, selling more than 200,000 prints. A short, puckish man with piercing blue eyes, Parrish painted the stuff dreams are made of. His trademarks were lush gardens, ecstatic women and his famous "Parrish blue," the color skies must surely be in any Eden worth the name. Parrish Calendar Maxfield Parrish prints have captivated and inspired millions with the artist's unique way of using color. The colors seen in Parrish's works were so bold that 'cobalt blue' is still referred to as "Parrish blue." These unique and magical images will always have a permanent place in art history. Maxfield Parish's view of the world was broad. Having travelled with his parents through Europe he absorbed everything from architecture and music, to the landscapes and culture. His love of landscapes shows through in the classical painting 'Daybreak' featuring a mountainous "Parrishscape" in its background. Another influential force in Parrish's career was inspired by Jay Hambidge, who preached in a series of lectures at Yale about a composition style he called "dynamic symmetry." This system offered artists a formula for reproducing natural proportions in their works and became a turning point for Parrish. This type of symmetry would become a trademark in most Maxfield Parrish prints He is best known for his landscapes and romantic figures. 'Sleeping Beauty' and 'Cinderella' are good examples of the fantasy figures that he loved to paint. These and other Maxfield Parrish prints are still in great demand.

Jackson Grace Gebbie Drayton was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Oct. 14, 1877, to George and Mary Fitzgerald Gebbie. In her early years she attended private schools in Pennsylvania. Grace was drawing little children by the time she was five years old. Her father also encouraged her artistic ability. Her sister, known professionally as Margaret G. Hayes, also illustrated stories, drew postcards, paperdolls, and wrote many of the verses accompanying Grace's drawings. If one compares the sisters illustrations of cuddly children one see many similarities. Her first marriage was to a Mr. Weiderseim and it ended in divorce and on June 23, 1911, she became Mrs. W. Heyward Drayton III of New York City. She retained her original name for her art and from that period forward signed her drawings Grace G. Drayton. She was a member of the Fellowship of the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, the Author's League of America, the Society of Illustrators, and the Art Center. She died of a heart attack in New York at the age of 58. The date was January 31, 1936.
