Policy , Health Content Standards and Objectives for West Virginia Schools, (2003) provides a suggested curriculum framework that includes the topics of nutrition, physical activity, tobacco use, drug and alcohol use, injury, and sexual activity.
Students in West Virginia are not required to pass a statewide exam covering health education topics at any point in grades K-12.
HIV, STD, and Pregnancy Prevention Education
West Virginia State Board of Education Policy (1989) requires students in grades 6-12 to receive instruction in the prevention of AIDS, either by integrating it into health education or into other programs. The state does not require schools to follow a specific curriculum, but HIV, STD, and pregnancy prevention are thoroughly integrated within the suggested curriculum framework of Policy . The state does not have limitations on what can or cannot be included in such instruction. While the state does not require parents to grant permission for participation in AIDS education, Policy

West Virginia School Of Nursing Selects Sonic Foundry To Enable New Web-based Distance Education Program Published on on Jul 15, 2003 Source: Sonic Foundry® Inc. Using Mediasite Live, WVU School of Nursing addresses shortage of nurses and nursing educators by giving students the convenience of live and on-demand online learning As part of the largest university in a largely rural state, WVU School of Nursing has a long history of providing some form of distance education as an attractive alternative to professionals seeking an advanced nursing degree, but for whom attending a traditional campus-based program is prohibitive. Most recently, the School had a grant to use a video conferencing service, but it required students to go to one of six locations in the state in order to participate. It also was fairly expensive, and with that grant about to expire, officials went looking for a more cost-effective solution with broader access. In fact, DiMaria and other faculty members have noticed that students are more engaged and more willing to ask questions with Mediasite Live than they were with the video conferencing system. In part, she said, because they can type the question versus asking it on-camera. In addition, because the rich media Web presentation system captures and streams on the fly, it allows the professors to be spontaneous in their lectures, and review a concept when there are questions.

Introduction
The College of Library and Information Science (CLIS) at the University of South Carolina is one of the nation's youngest and most distinctive schools of library and information science education. With an outstanding faculty who share the philosophy that information service is not primarily a system of procedures relating to materials but rather a dynamic human service profession, the CLIS has produced an effective educational program which prepares graduates to enter challenging and rewarding careers in libraries and information centers in colleges, schools, communities, industries, and businesses. Students in the CLIS enjoy their studies and develop, both in and out of the classroom, collegial relationships and friendships which enrich and support them throughout their professional careers. Many students who are qualified to enroll in the College's programs of library and information science education are not able to participate full time in traditional campus-based classes. We are pleased to be able to offer these students flexible scheduling and convenient modes of course delivery. The USC College of Library and Information Science leads the nation in live interactive transmission of courses. The CLIS has provided this type of innovative educational opportunity to students in South Carolina since 1982. A three-year cohort of students in West Virginia and Georgia completed the USC-MLIS program through distance education in 1995. A three-year cohort in Maine reached completion in 1997. A second cohort began in West Virginia during the 1997-98 academic year and will extend over a four year period. A second four year cohort of Mainers started in Fall 2000.

The newly elected governors from Montana, North Dakota, West Virginia and Delaware may be just out of the starting blocks, but they’ve wasted little time in grappling with an increasingly urgent question: How can technology help advance their agendas?
All four governors highlighted technology initiatives in their first state-of-the-state addresses. Montana’s governor even celebrated an Information Technology Day soon after taking office.
"Improvements in technology accounted for a lot of the gains in productivity and in our economy during the past decade," North Dakota Governor John Hoeven said. "Like private industry, we in government need to develop and utilize technology because it will be key to helping us prosper."
The governors are examining the myriad ways technology can enhance service to citizens and promote economic development — from finishing a high-speed, broadband network to helping recruit high-tech employees to offering an array of electronic government services.
